The role holder will support the establishment and ongoing maintenance of the risk environment within LGR Retirement Income.

This role can be based in Hove or Cardiff. 

  • Be responsible for the continual review of processes, procedures and controls across the LGR Retirement Income division. Ensure these remain appropriate to support the current business model, future developments, regulatory changes and increased scale of the retirement income business.
  • Lead reviews of existing and historic retirement income services ensuring at they remain complaint with regulatory rules and are managed effectively to minimise operational impacts. Monitor existing operational services to ensure that customers are provided with appropriate information and that LGR Retirement Income continues to meet regulatory rules and business objectives. Conduct risk assessments for new development activity undertaken by the retirement income business or impacting the business, ensuring that changes to the risk environment are identified and mitigation actions established.
  • Manage and lead the divisional Quality Assurance function, ensuring compliance with our regulatory obligations and investigating root causes to propose appropriate actions to improve customer outcomes and staff performance. Review monthly quality data to proactively manage common trends and instigate action plans with the business to minimise future incidences and the cost of errors.
  • Establish and own a central robust suite of control reports and monitors, identifying any issues or failures and ensuring that the appropriate remedial actions are taken. Perform thorough root cause analysis and coordinate all learning activity to prevent any future reoccurrence.
  • Responsibility for ensuring compliance with agreed methodology, standards, policies and procedures to produce a consistently high standard of documentation. Ensure strong governance, sharing of knowledge and provision of feedback and ideas, so that reporting efficiency and performance is continually improved.
  • Be responsible for providing support to the Operational Governance Manager through high level administration, planning, collating & analysing data, preparing committee meeting agenda packs & producing output, as well as conducting ad-hoc research.
  • Provide core business expertise & analysis in response to emerging risks; issues & breaches thereby delivering a managed resolution consistent with LGR Retirement Income objectives by ensuring all internal controls are implemented in a robust manner. Deliver effective communication to all interested parties including stakeholders and senior managers to support effective decision-making in regards to risk, controls and governance.
  • Ensure the business is following and adhering to the correct procedures and governance standards outlined in accordance with the various Group Polices and provide the required reporting to enable KPI and KRI to be measured and trends, risks and opportunities unearthed. Monitor service levels with all third parties and ensure effective and efficient service is being maintained.
  • To take the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.
  • Relevant pensions knowledge – a thorough and detailed understanding of the features of bulk and individual products and how these are supported operationally
  • A strong understanding of technology and systems; able to identify areas for change and implement improvement. A good working knowledge of current Legal & General pensions systems
  • Thorough understanding of the Individual and Pension Risk Transfer customer journeys.
  • Proficient in the selection and application of information gathering methods, tools and techniques which are appropriate to the information required and the sources available. Examples: contextual enquiries, focus groups, structured interviews, questionnaires, observation, statistical analysis.
  • Thorough understanding of L&G policies and standards.
  • Demonstration of adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Up-to-date accreditation of appropriate compliance CBT’s (DPA, ML etc) 
  • Good standard of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Ability to effectively present and influence at Senior Management level, having confidence to deal with challenges and objections.
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels. Maintains and develops key contacts and network relationships.
  • To understand and react to the needs of the customer, working proactively to provide a professional and impartial service and striving to improve the customer experience. 
  • Expertise in techniques for streamlining business processes; which have been modelled and understood. Examples: lean methodology, value added assessment, process time reduction, future proofing, resilience, reliability and cost efficiency.
