We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Pricing Manager to join our Insurance Business in a high profile new role that offers excellent exposure across the business.
Purpose
This is an exciting new Senior opportunity to price new and existing insurance business to push profit and growth whilst minimising risk. Driving the commercial agenda across the business your focus will include marketing (product development) and relationship managers (representing Actuarial at regular/tender meetings) and to ensure the reinsurance arrangements are optimal.
Principal Accountabilities
- Pricing of new and existing insurance policies. Ensuring the pricing process is efficient and robust by recommending and delivering developments to the process as necessary.
- To develop new distribution and new products by providing pricing expertise and any additional actuarial support as required.
- Own Actuarial oversight over products, literature, systems and processes to ensure any changes meet regulatory, statutory and professional requirements whilst maintaining operational and product integrity.
- To take the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.
- To build and manage relationships with reinsurers. To work across all business areas across the Protection business in order to negotiate and implement reinsurance treaties for new and existing business.
- To put in place optimal reinsurance treaties in order to maximise profitability and to improve capital efficiency, so that L&G are able to sustain a competitive market position. To ensure that reinsurance agreements meet any counter-party risk requirements.
- To successfully manage internal relationships so that any changes to risk management, products or processes meet agreed standards and reinsurer expectations.
- To proactively identify any opportunities for leveraging the relationship with reinsurers, accessing expertise to support product developments.
- To contribute to the strategic and tactical developments of reinsurance solutions for the protection products. To identify any required changes to reinsurance structures.
- To ensure that appropriate systems and controls are in place and risks identified and escalated where appropriate to meet the Legal & General Customer Experience and Treating Customers Fairly Policy.
Qualifications
- Qualified Actuary with strong post qualified experience
Knowledge
Reinsurance
- Knowledge of reinsurance market, typical reinsurance structures and treaty wordings
- Detailed understanding of actuarial techniques for pricing long term insurance products
Product
- Ideally detailed understanding of Protection business, including underwriting and claims. However we would look at candidates from the wider Actuarial Insurance market.
- PROPHET & SAS experience would be beneficial
Skills
- Team management, stakeholder management and mentoring experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in reviewing processes and implementing improvements
- Ability to influence and peers senior management.
- Highly driven

This means we would consider a more flexible working arrangement, where your hours and work location are managed according to business, customer and personal needs’ For this role, you would be based in Hove or London, but you could work in other Legal and General offices or at home, as necessary, provided this meets business needs.
