You will focus on the Direct Investments, playing a key role in helping us to grow the portfolio through providing financial due diligence support in acquisitions and disposals, together with interacting with the investee companies and financial reporting teams to analyse and communicate the performance of our portfolio.

Legal and General Capital manages £5.3bn of assets, with £3.8bn in liquid “Traded” assets such as equities, fixed income and cash, and £1.5bn in illiquid “Direct Investments”, which are privately held investments, associates and consolidated entities assets investing in our four chosen sectors of Housing, Urban Regeneration, Clean Energy and SME Finance.

The position of Portfolio Management Analyst will focus on the Direct Investments, playing a key role in helping us to grow the portfolio through providing financial due diligence support in acquisitions and disposals, together with interacting with the investee companies and financial reporting teams to analyse and communicate the performance of our portfolio. The key aspects of the role are as follows:

  • Financial business partnering for investee companies across our sectors of Housing, Urban Regeneration, Clean Energy and SME Finance portfolio assets, including:
  • Leading the review of portfolio performance tracking through interaction between investee companies and senior deal leads
  • reviewing and reporting appropriate valuation bases for portfolio investments
  • Financial due diligence for new investments and support with disposal process with significant interaction with corporates, advisors and senior Group stakeholders.
  • Contributing to communications with LGC-level and Group-level investment committees, including new investment proposals and portfolio reviews

Principal Accountabilities

Financial business partnering:

Analysing and communicating financial performance of a group of portfolio assets

Liaising with the senior investment professionals and investee companies to produce asset-level plans and financial projections including profitability and returns (IRR and ROCE)

Financial due diligence:

Key role in financial due diligence of investment forecasts including driving scenario planning and sensitivity analysis

Translating asset-level data into LGC-level financial metrics including overlaying profit and loss impact

Asset performance and valuations:

Analysing and providing updates to senior stakeholders regarding to the performance vs. plan and expectations by asset and sector

Engaging with internal and external valuation experts to produce asset valuations

Contributing to submissions and presentations to investment committees

Assisting with the preparation of the financial aspect of case reviews and new investment proposals

  • Newly/ recently qualified ACA/ ACCA
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, given the significant level of personal exposure to senior stakeholders and investee companies
  • Ability to form strong relationships with wide range of stakeholders, internally and externally
  • Experience either in corporate finance advisory/ financial due diligence or investment management environment
  • Knowledge of some of sectors into which LGC invests (housing, infrastructure and SME Finance) desirable but not extensive
  • Experience of IFRS
  • Experience of producing high quality professional financial papers and analysis
  • Strong excel skills/ familiarity with reviewing financial models (ability to produce financial models also desirable)

Our view is that this role is suitable for agile working. This means we would consider a more flexible working arrangement, where your hours and work location are managed according to business, customer and personal needs. For this role, you would be based in London, but you could work in other Legal & General offices or at home, as necessary, provided this meets business needs.
