A student actuary to assist in the development and maintenance of the systems, models and processes used by the various Financial Reporting teams across Legal & General.

As part of a project team, team members are typically involved in a number of different projects at any time, ranging from enhancements to existing reporting methodologies, through to the incorporation of new products and legislatively driven requirements.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

A student actuary to assist in the development and maintenance of the systems, models and processes used by the various Financial Reporting teams across Legal & General.

As part of a project team, team members are typically involved in a number of different projects at any time, ranging from enhancements to existing reporting methodologies, through to the incorporation of new products and legislatively driven requirements.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  1. Implement Change: Implement development changes as identified in the requirements documents in line with the agreed work package plan (covering both technical and documentation changes).
  2. Test Execution Complete all testing activities as defined in the project plan, ensuring that all test preparation documentation is complete before undertaking testing, and that the test completion reports are completed to document tests undertaken and their success (or otherwise).
  3. Documentation: Prepare all project and test documentation (unit / system / integration) ensuring it is complete, accurate and adheres to current best practice standards of M&FS and L&G's published development standards and methodology.
  4. Time Management: Actively manage own time and workload and to escalate issues and risks of likely deviation from agreed plan at the earliest opportunity to the Project Manager and the Actuarial Technical Lead and agree options for resolution.
  5. Change Management: Provide appropriate input to the project status reports as and when requested by the Project Manager ensuring they are complete and accurately reflect the development status of the project / work package
Technical Knowledge

The jobholder will have knowledge of the following:

  • A range of reporting metrics.
  • A range of life products
  • UK Finance sector.
  • Actuarial Finance systems and processes.
  • Prophet or other actuarial modelling software.

Qualifications

The jobholder will be a student actuary with an excellent academic record a strong commitment to complete the actuarial exams.

Specific Experience

The jobholder will have:

  • Good experience of working with a team
  • An adaptable approach and be inquisitive.
  • Good communication, personal planning and organisation skills
  • Ability to show initiative in applying good problem solving and analytical skills
  • A practical and hands on approach.

The role you are applying to is for a specific location, but to further develop and enhance your skills you may be asked to rotate in future to our other site. Our sites are London and Hove.  

Our view is that this role is suitable for agile working. This means we would consider a more flexible working arrangement, where your hours and work location are managed according to business, customer and personal needs. For this role, you would be based in our Hove Office, but you could work in other Legal and General offices or at home, as necessary, provided this meets business needs. Details of agile working will be discussed during the interview process.
