Join us as a Technical Underwrier - Pet Insurance and actively support the management and underwriting development of all existing pet insurance schemes, and implement new schemes.  

• Actively support the management and underwriting development of all existing pet schemes, and implement new schemes to achieve agreed targets and budgets; be accountable for the adherence to the underwriting rules, to ensure that risks are accepted in accordance with the agreed underwriting framework and risk appetite. Ensure that scheme underwriting performance is regularly reviewed and recommendations are made to achieve positive financial and customer outcomes
• Implement the pet underwriting vision and policy for all products in all distribution channels across all sales platforms for which Insurance acts as risk carrier (in accordance with its Insurance Risk Policy), to achieve key business plans, maintain Insurance’s reputational image and reflect the needs and the expectations of customers; ensuring these are aligned to the Customer Experience and TCF Policy.  Actively engage in and utilise the PLM and risk review process to ensure all products are within agreed product governance.
• Establish and deliver the highest technical underwriting standards throughout the operational and sales areas and with business partners; through the provision of clear, timely and documented information including the development, maintenance and oversight of all manuals, best practice papers and training programs
• Take the lead with all operational areas and business partners to address any areas of underwriting policy concern, keeping the customer at the centre of what we do and ensuring that all products and schemes operate within our agreed underwriting governance and regulatory framework
• Lead activity with the operations and claims team to validate that decisions are being made in accordance with underwriting policy, and that information is used to develop future underwriting rules and principles
• Take ownership and lead the development and enhancement of policy wordings, terms and conditions across all Pet schemes
• Take ownership and lead the underwriting element of schemes, projects and distribution opportunities.  Being accountable for agreed targets and key performance metrics

• In depth Knowledge of policy cover and underwriting philosophy for the pet products.  An understanding of the key underwriting drivers in account performance and how they affect claims frequency and severity
• Excellent relationship and negotiation skills, comfortable, competent and confident in interactions with stakeholders and business partners. Able to influence others to support underwriting proposals
• Good understanding of the sales and operations process and how underwriting can influence these
• Awareness of the policy administration and claims handling processes.
• Good understanding of external and internal regulatory environment and the role/interaction of bodies such as the FCA, ABI and BBA
• Familiarity with pet systems, but a greater knowledge of pet insurance processes required both sales and claims
• A good knowledge of the different internal functions within L&G and how underwriting interacts with each of these to ensure underwriting policy is delivered ‘end to end’
• Familiarity with market structures and supply chains; Very good  knowledge and awareness of key insurers and competitors in the Pet market
• A good awareness of all distribution channels where our products are deployed and the effect on underwriting policy
