Join us as a Developer and take responsibility for designing, developing, documenting and deploying software components to deliver high quality solutions to our business.

  • Design, develop, document and deploy software components to deliver high quality solutions to our business and their customers that:
  1. are fit for purpose
  2. align with IT strategy
  3. integrate with the existing IT architecture and technology
  4. contribute to continuous improvement of our IT systems
  • Support all stages of the Software development and deployment lifecycle including design, Build, testing, deployment and warranty.
  • Assist wherever required with analysis and resolutions of issues in the Live environment. 
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Application Designer/s, Solutions Architects, Senior Developers and other IT and Change team members at various ‘touch points’ throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure high quality, solutions are designed, built and delivered to the Live environment.
  • Liaise closely with Third party software and Infrastructure providers to ensure the quality and suitability of their technical design and solutions including non-functional design and development considerations. Collaborate with service provider teams to improve the effectiveness and timeliness of their deliveries
  • Ensure Technical documentation of code and within code is accurate, knowledge is shared and LGI intellectual property is safeguarded. Work closely with Senior Developers to ensure adherence to LGI coding standards across all deliveries
  • Ensure security of LGI data and intellectual property is ensured, without exception
  • Work closely with Service management and senior developers to refine system metrics to continuously improve user experience and service performance
  • Ensure all solutions have our customer at their core and align with L&G’s commitment to Treating Customers Fairly, without exception

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • It is desirable that the applicant have a degree or equivalent qualification in: IT, computer science, business, Mathematics or Sciences
  • Candidates without this should have extensive industry  experience in a relevant environment
  • It is also desirable that the applicant have applicable professional industry standard  qualifications: ITIL, PRINCE2, Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), SAFe Agilist (SA)
  • Candidates without this should have extensive industry  experience in a relevant environment.

Knowledge:

  • Technical experience developing E-commerce applications using Java/J2EE. Additional knowledge of the following is beneficial:
  • Spring framework (MVC, Dependency Injection, Data Access)
  • JDBC, XML, Junit, LDAP, Active Directory, Eclipse, Subversion, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, Javascript, JQuery
  • IBM Websphere Application Server
  • Full understanding of: applicable database technologies (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server), Data Warehousing and reporting (e.g. Business Objects, Ab-initio, SAS) and Enterprise content management products
  • Application integration with multiple platforms and data sources (Mainframe, mid-range, SOA, ESB technologies)
  • IT security (e.g. OWASP, WS-Security)
  • IT infrastructure (SAN technologies, basic networking, Wintel, Linux, zOS)
  • Knowledge of, or experience using, mainframe DB2400 applications on IBM platforms is an additional benefit (PL1/COBOL) but is not a requirement
  • Knowledge of, or experience using Oracle PL/SQL, JFK 1.6, JSPX, JasperReports, Drools is an additional benefit but is not a requirement
  • Working with: Agile development methodology, SAFe, SCRUM, Waterfall Software development lifecycle, ITIL, TOGAF, PRINCE2 etc
  • Understanding of established and emerging technologies and their contribution to delivering successful business outcomes
  • Understanding of the Business Change cycle from inception to implementation, including the organisation of Change initiatives, e.g. Sponsors and Steering Committees
  • Working in a professional IT environment (Ideally Insurance or financial services sector)
  • Working with distributed teams including offshore service providers. Leading offshore teams in a matrix organisation would be especially relevant

Skills:

  • Strong Communication, written and verbal is essential. The candidate should be Socially articulate and display Intercultural awareness
  • Adaptability – The role requires analytical, problem solving thinking combined with creative design thinking to develop new solutions for LGI IT
  • Organisation – Strong time and workload management is essential. This is a Bimodal delivery environment with both Waterfall and Agile delivery methodologies in use
  • Enthusiasm and Able to learn quickly – The LGI IT architecture is complex and shares interfaces to the wider L&G group architecture. A Senior Enterprise Application Designer will be expected to  understand this diverse and changing environment in high levels of detail
