A great opportunity to join us as a Senior Enterprise Application Designer/Analyst. The successful applicant will need technical experience designing and building E-commerce application and full understanding of applicable database technologies.

This role is responsible for the analysis, solution generation and documentation of IT processes, systems and technical designs for Legal and General Insurance’s systems for both the Retail Protection and Group Protection areas of LGI’s business. Working within the LGI IT team, you will work closely with project management, Business Analysts, test teams, strategic software providers and infrastructure services providers, to design and govern high quality, appropriate solutions to our business and their customers.  

Principal Accountabilities:

• Understand the LGI IT environment in deep technical detail and use this knowledge to drive system design across the 2 LGI portfolio’s (Retail Protection/Group Protection) that:

1. align closely with IT strategy
2. integrate with the existing IT architecture
3. contributes to continuous improvement of our IT systems and architecture

• Drive review processes to ensure all solutions across both RP and GP portfolios:

1. align closely with IT strategy
2. integrate with the existing IT architecture
3. contribute to continuous improvement of our IT systems and archite

This will include review and approval of designs created by third parties

• Collaborate with a range of stakeholders (IT, LGI business, Project management, Test teams, strategic partners) on a daily basis and Co-ordinate with other internal LGI functions (e.g. Finance / Operations/Claims) as necessary to ensure IT deliverables are delivered effectively, on time and within budgets
• Liaise closely with Business architects and solution designers to ensure Business requirements are realistic, achievable and that the solutions we provide meet business requirements and improve user experience/customer satisfaction
• Liaise closely with third party software suppliers and third party infrastructure services providers to ensure the quality and suitability of their software designs and technical solutions. Challenge estimates, challenge design concepts and collaborate with service provider teams to improve the effectiveness and timeliness of their deliveries, the quality of their documentation and the depth of their knowledge of LGI systems and processes
• Ensure documentation is accurate, knowledge is actively shared and LGI intellectual property is safeguarded. Conceive, create, own and maintain LGI design standards and conduct regular analysis on whether IT policies/standards are followed
• Liaise closely with Shared services IT security experts for all technical designs and ensure security of LGI data and intellectual property is maintained, without exception
• Ensure all solutions have our customer at their core and align with L&G’s commitment to Treating Customers Fairly, without exception

Qualifications:

• It is desirable that the applicant have a degree or equivalent qualification in: IT, computer science, business, Mathematics or Sciences
• Candidates without this should have extensive industry  experience in a relevant environment
• It is also desirable that the applicant have applicable professional industry standard  qualifications: ITIL, PRINCE2, Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), SAFe Agilist (SA)
• Candidates without this should have extensive industry experience in a relevant environment

Knowledge:

• Technical experience designing and building E-commerce applications
• Full understanding of applicable database technologies (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server), Data Warehousing and reporting (e.g. Business Objects, Ab-initio, SAS) and Enterprise content management products
• Application integration with multiple platforms and data sources (Mainframe, mid-range, SOA, ESB technologies)
• IT security (e.g. OWASP, WS-Security)
• IT infrastructure (SAN technologies, basic networking, Wintel, Linux, zOS)
• Working with: Agile development methodology, SAFe, SCRUM, Waterfall Software development lifecycle, ITIL, TOGAF, PRINCE2 etc
• Understanding of established and emerging technologies and their contribution to delivering successful business outcomes
• Understanding of the Business Change cycle from inception to implementation, including the organisation of Change initiatives, e.g. Sponsors and Steering Committees
• Working in a professional IT environment (Ideally Insurance or financial services sector)
• Working with distributed teams including offshore service providers. Leading offshore teams in a matrix organisation would be especially relevant
• Working in multi-cultural environments
• Managing projects/tasks in a large corporate environment
• Awareness of current issues and trends impacting L&G, including regulation, competitive forces and economic factors.
• Understanding of L&G’s Business Strategy and how this relates to the role.
• Understanding of L&G's technology standards, including where/how they are implemented and their purpose.
• Awareness of any issues with these technologies, such as lifespan and potential replacements, scalability and other constraints

Skills:

• Strong Communication, written and verbal is essential. The candidate should be Socially articulate and display Intercultural awareness
• Adaptability – The role requires analytical, problem solving thinking combined with creative design thinking to develop new solutions for LGI IT
• Organisation – Strong time and workload management is essential. This is a Bimodal delivery environment with both Waterfall and Agile delivery methodologies in use
• Enthusiasm and Able to learn quickly – The LGI IT architecture is complex and shares interfaces to the wider L&G group architecture. A Senior Enterprise Application Designer will be expected to  understand this diverse and changing environment in high levels of detail
