An apprentice Network Engineer with a desire to learn and contribute within L&G’s central IT function where full training, support and development will be given leading to formal qualification.

An apprentice Network Engineer with a desire to learn and contribute within L&G’s central IT function where full training, support and development will be given leading to formal qualification.  By the end of the 24 month programme the incumbent will be able to competently perform the role outlined in the accountabilities below.

The Network Engineer will assist in the delivery of IT services to L&G by working with the strategic IT partners to ensure that IT services are delivered and managed in accordance with best practice.  The role holder will offer support to the strategic partners to ensure that IT services are not placed at risk and service is maintained. Undertake proactive analysis of re-occurring issues to help identify trends and look to resolve long term root causes.  Provide sound technical support in the case of major incidents including tracking service improvements activities through to completion.  Provide support to the change process and actively monitor and assess the impact of change. Proactively monitor and seek out areas of IT risk with the use of tools and data analysis. Provide support to the governance processes to ensure that an appropriate quality of service is delivered and undertake escalation where required. Ensure service targets and metrics are monitored/reviewed and updated as appropriate to meet the Business needs.

Principle Accountabilities:

Build effective working relationships with the Managed Service Providers, the wider SSIT team and internal Business Stakeholders, to encourage an open and trusting relationship where information is freely exchanged.

Provide support to Tier 1 suppliers investigating major incidents within L&G, ensure RCA plans are followed to completion and all actions taken.  Be seen as a source of sound technical decision making within L&G.  Provide feedback to Tier 1 supplier’s performance and continuously work with them to look for opportunities to improve the process.

Be responsible for approving IT changes and assessing the impact of the change on behalf of SSIT.  Work with the Tier 1 suppliers to ensure failed changes are understood and any corrective actions taken to ensure future changes are successful. Look for opportunities to help improve the Change processes and support the suppliers. 

Perform proactive health monitoring using the tools available to the team, look to improve the tools configuration by tuning them to the changing IT estate.  Use the tools to identify potential issues and look to prevent issues before they become service affecting.

Provide technical support to internal projects, help feed into requirement definition and ensure new projects adhere to the Service acceptance process.  Support projects through the project lifecycle including supporting the implementation events and singing off changes on behalf of SSIT.

Ensure that all SLAs and KPIs are maintained and achieved by the Managed Service Providers. Work with Commercial Operations to ensure that the required SLAs and KPIs are in place with our key suppliers and that they accurately reflect the service provided. Work with the Production Service Managers to negotiate and agree service standards with the Business; manage the Service Level Agreements put in place and regularly review performance with the Managed Service Providers. Support the escalation of service issues to a successful resolution.

Perform Oversight processes to ensure that the Managed Service Providers are delivering in line with expectations; defined processes are being effectively delivered with the required service outcomes.

Provide Support to the Production Service Managers; look for opportunities to support the PSM’s to help them deliver an end to end service to our business areas.  Attend as necessary meetings to support PSM’s in engagements with Business areas.

Provide Support to the SSIT Governance team; look for opportunities to support the governance team and support them in their capacity and performance responsibilities.  Provide feedback on supplier performance and look for opportunities to further support and grow the engagement with our suppliers. 

 

Qualifications:

A Levels in a similar subject

Or an Apprenticeship in a similar subject (this must be at least the level below the planned programme)

Or an International Baccalaureate at level 3 in ICT

Or a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 credits)

For any City and Guilds programmes the learner must be 18 on the first day of their apprenticeship

This means we would consider a more flexible working arrangement, where your hours and work location are managed according to business, customer and personal needs. For this role, you would be based in Hove, but you could work in other Legal & General offices or at home, as necessary, provided this meets business needs.
