The Configuration Technology Lead will be responsible for the implementation and growth of a new in-house capability enabling the rapid delivery of customer specific system configurations. These configurations will be implemented within existing and new technology capabilities (ie: Microsoft Dynamics, Ab Initio, Business Objects etc).

The role holder will have a systems development background, and will need to understand and operate agile delivery methods in the definition, design, delivery, testing and release of the configuration items, ideally in a financial services setting.  

LGR IT is responsible for the production processes for data and risk analytics, the business change associated with those systems and the delivery of good quality management information to other teams within LGR as well as other business units in the L&G group.

The Configuration Technology Lead will be responsible for the implementation and growth of a new in-house capability enabling the rapid delivery of customer specific system configurations. These configurations will be implemented within existing and new technology capabilities (ie: Microsoft Dynamics, Ab Initio, JIRA, Confluence, Business Objects etc). The role holder will have a systems development background, and will need to understand and operate agile delivery methods in the definition, design, delivery, testing and release of the configuration items, ideally in a financial services setting.  

In addition the Lead role will support the onboarding / integration of new configuration capabilities and their supporting resources as required from time to time, based on prevailing customer need. This will involve integration of knowledge, code and documentation into the existing BAU framework and where applicable definition of revision to process.  This will also require resource demand estimation and capacity management planning to ensure that the capability remains optimally resourced.

The role holder will be both a manager of people and technical capability and as such will provide resolution to issues and problems, needs to communicates effectively at all levels, internally and externally, and provides support services to internal customers by offering help and assistance, and ensuring system capability is used to resolve business and user needs and requirements The role holder will need to be able to manage the configuration capability across two customer sites (Cardiff & Hove).

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Define, deliver and continually improve the configuration capability including core processes, tools and standards.
  • Manage ongoing engagement with configuration technology users within the business teams to drive future demand for configuration change
  • Ensure configuration capabilities are delivered in line with LGR SDLC and IT Security standards
  • Effectively manage IT environment availability to enable rapid development and release of capability
  • Ensure effective knowledge transfer from third parties to in-house teams as applicable and institutionalise skill management practices across the delivery team
  • Proactively manage configuration team resource capability / capacity in line with known business demand
  • Ensure robust configuration management and release processes are in place to support capabilities delivered
  • Effective third party supplier engagement to support continued enhancement of  capabilities and team development
  • Predict and keep up to date with latest configuration technologies, their use, and be able to proof of concept potential strategic opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Degree level qualification in a technical or numerate field or equivalent experience.

Knowledge:

  • Proven ability to respond to technical system delivery / configuration requests, related to Commercially Off The Shelf (COTS) software packages.
  • Proven experience in a software development / SDLC delivery
  • Strong people management background
  • Ability to estimate, plan and manage, work with line managers to manage own work and keep within plan
  • Past experience of working with MS Dynamics, Ab Initio, Business Objects, Magnum, Eg, HP Exstream, JIRA, Confluence would be valuable

  • Strong stakeholder management

  • Development and coding experience
  • Sound documentation and communication skills in a client / customer facing environment
  • A strong technical aptitude, with a business solution focus
  • Proficient in problem solving with investigative and numeracy skills

This means we would consider a more flexible working arrangement, where your hours and work location are managed according to business, customer and personal needs. For this role, you would be based in Hove, but you could work in other Legal and General offices or at home, as necessary, provided this meets business needs.
