You will lead and manage the Intermediated & Partner Distribution activity for Individual Annuities across all retirement income product lines, maximise profitable business growth, contribute to business profitability, mitigate commercial risks in the business area and deliver against agreed business objectives. Responsible for maximising intermediary distribution and also the development and execution of new partner distribution agreements (pitching for and negotiating new deals).

The role holder will lead and manage the Intermediated & Partner Distribution activity for Individual Annuities across all retirement income product lines, maximise profitable business growth, contribute to business profitability, mitigate commercial risks in the business area and deliver against agreed business objectives. Responsible for maximising intermediary distribution and also the development and execution of new partner distribution agreements (pitching for and negotiating new deals).

The role holder will create, drive and deliver the Intermediary strategy, acting as a ‘market catalyst’ and help to position LGR as the retirement specialist, being one of the external faces of LGRR market activity, research and insight. Along with Marketing, influence the market debate towards a retirement income market where every consumer has the opportunity of accessing the best possible terms for their retirement solution needs. 

The short term ambition is for LGRR to achieve #1 market share by the end of 2018 for the Retirement Income product areas.

Distribution strategy:

  • Create the LGRR retirement income distribution strategy.
  • Implement the resulting target operating model and structure.

Revenue & profit targets:

  • Achieve revenue and profit targets for Intermediated & Partner Distribution across the LGRR retirement income product range.

Intermediary & Partner development:

  • Act as lead representative for L&G in the Intermediary space and a senior lead with all strategic relationships.
  • Negotiate, secure and help implement market leading commercial contracts that align interests and drive partnership behaviours and longevity in relationships.
  • Encourage and promote the highest standards in financial advice both with intermediaries and partners and deal decisively with any firms that do not meet these standards.

Governance & Risk Management:

  • Create an environment that proactively identifies and manages risk through the robust usage of the group risk infrastructure and ensure alignment with supplier management teams within the LGR business.
  • Develop and manage relationships to ensure business relationships and development activities adhere to relevant FCA guidance and regulation.

Pricing & business mix:

  • Work closely with the product team using competitor analysis and benchmarking to ensure the right mix of competitiveness and profit are achieved.
  • Optimising distribution acquisition costs for channel and improve where appropriate productivity levels across channel.

Leadership & People Development:

  • Drive motivational behaviours across the division and ensure key performance indices are achieved and communicated across the division and wider business.
  • Lead and manage the people development plan across the Distribution function and ensure the performance management framework is delivering against agreed objectives.
  • To take lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring the management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise the business performance.

Budget management:

  • Develop and manage right sized FTE and Management Expenses budgets to agreed tolerances and building quarterly budgets and forecasts.
  • Specifically manage sales development budget and activities to ensure appropriate return on investment and drive target plans with all key relationships.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Director and team and influence the marketing budget and its allocation.

 

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent /Relevant work experience

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of L&G products
  • A deep understanding of all L&G Pension & Retirement Products & Propositions.

Market knowledge and insight

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the wider Intermediary market for pensions and retirement income.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of market activities and particularly what strategies can be pursued to attain and retain market leadership.

Technical and e-commerce knowledge

  • Achieves the appropriate level of knowledge on technical and e-commerce related propositions.  Possess technology and e-commerce skills to be able to advise and promote L&G products and processes and keep abreast of market developments and trends.

Strategic

  • Creates, achieves and communicates desired strategic vision.
  • Prioritises and implements new directives and leads change.
  • Ensures appropriate organisational structures are in place to support vision and values.
  • Understands impacts of legislation and regulations.

Leadership

  • Experience of leading market entry/creation and growing significant market share from a small base. Experience of building belief and faith in new products, concepts or markets and taking people (team, internal stakeholders, intermediaries and wider market) with you.
  • Ensures managers and their direct reports have the necessary tools, skills and knowledge to achieve business objectives and resolve issues.
  • Develop a culture of collaborative working and establish co-operation.

Our view is that this role is suitable for agile working. This means we would consider a more flexible working arrangement, where your hours and work location are managed according to business, customer and personal needs. For this role, you would be based in Hove, London or be Homebased, but you could work in other Legal & General offices or at home, as necessary, provided this meets business needs.
