We have a vacancy for a Data Modeler who will be responsible for strategic projects with focus on data modelling, data dictionary, Metadata and data lineage management in traditional as well as NoSql environments.

This resource will be primarily responsible for strategic projects with focus on data modelling, data dictionary, Metadata and data lineage management in traditional as well as NoSql environments.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Analyse current data models and future design documents to establish the data modelling approach.
  • Works with the key business representatives, data owners, end-users, solution designers and data architect to establish data structures to address these requirements.
  • Create/maintain the data models using formal modelling notification along with a range of related documentation, such as - dataflow diagram, source to target mapping, conversion logic, business definitions etc. and gain appropriate approvals.
  • Own data related test cases and scripts that correspond to business requirements as an input to test planning.
  • Work/Liaise with senior leadership, wider business and IT team as required. Ensure key data aspects of the project are appropriately understood by various stakeholders.
  • Maintains lineage and data dictionary continuously as modifications and enhancements are made.
  • Constantly assess industry best practice against internal methodology and introduce enhancements.

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified

Knowledge:

  • Significant experience of Data modelling in support of Data Warehouse, BI, Data Analytics, Metadata and complex Data Migration solutions including analysing source systems, reconciliation and DQ issues.
  • Significant exposure to relational and NoSQL design methodologies.
  • Must have knowledge of insurance industry. Knowledge of retirements will be a bonus.
  • Support creation and maintenance of Data Dictionary
  • Good experience in query and reporting tools, such as Business Objects or data discovery tools such as QlikView and Tableau
  • Keen interest in staying up-to-date and learning new skills
  • Experience of data governance.

Skills:

  • Strong writing and documentation skills
  • Experience of using Power Designer or a similar tool.
  • Exceptional personal and communication skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Writing/executing ETL, Profiling and Data Quality tools.
  • Experience in facilitating and hosting workshops and focus groups with SMEs and senior stakeholders.

This means we would consider a more flexible working arrangement, where your hours and work location are managed according to business, customer and personal needs. For this role, you would be based in Hove, but you could work in other Legal & General offices or at home, as necessary, provided this meets business needs.
