Legal and General have 2 opportunities for Risk interns to join the organisation over the summer for 8 weeks throughout July and August.

Legal & General Capital (LGC) seeks opportunities to deploy capital in sectors where there is a lack of investment to support society’s needs. LGC invests in sectors such as housing, specialist commercial property, clean energy and SME Finance and is an exciting, growing and evolving part of the L&G Group.

Sustainability is at the core of what we do. We’re passionate about investments that will create a positive environmental and socio-economic impact. The LGC risk team supports the business in creating alternative assets by providing risk advice and guidance as we seek opportunities to deploy capital in sectors where there is a lack of investment.

Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) is the asset-management arm of Legal & General Group. Our purpose is to create a better future through responsible investing. We strive to achieve this through a strong sense of partnership with our clients, working together to achieve positive long-term outcomes across public and private assets, index and active strategies.

On behalf of savers, retirees and institutions worldwide, we manage £1.2 trillion in assets*. We are at the forefront of global index fund management. We are also leading developments in investment solutions for defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes.

LGIM Risk and Compliance support the business in its role of identifying, assessing, managing and reporting risks by providing independent and insightful oversight, challenge and advice and responding quickly to new issues and requirements.

Our teams own and implement comprehensive, effective risk, control and compliance frameworks with continuous improvement at their core. Together we form LGIM’s second line of defence for risks management.

Both teams are seeking a Risk Intern who will work closely with the LGC risk team to identify and analyse financial and non-financial risks across our business. Within the LGIM Risk placement you will also monitor our compliance with regulatory requirements and standards.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with strong analytical skills and a curious mind. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to gain valuable experience in either the alternative investment industry or the asset management industry.

You will also take part in an induction week designed to introduce you to L&G and help prepare you for the remainder of the internship. Over the course of the internship you will have the chance to interact with different teams, hear from senior speakers and network with your fellow interns. Some of the day to day activities could include:

  • Assist in identifying and assessing potential risks to the business
  • Support the team in monitoring and assessing business compliance with regulatory rules and requirements
  • Conduct research on industry trends and best practices and analyse data
  • Assist in preparing reports and management information for senior management
  • Participate in meetings and contribute to discussions related to risk management
  • Most importantly you will be learning new skills and gaining knowledge of how our business works!

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be a penultimate-year student on track for a 2:1 degree in a finance related or numerate subject
  • Have an interest in risk and be passionate about inclusive capitalism and L&G's purpose
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Be willing to learn, inquisitive and a critical thinker as well as proactive, enthusiastic, organised and methodical
  • Possess strong Microsoft Excel skills, and be comfortable using PowerPoint and Word.
  • Be friendly, approachable and comfortable collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

When you commit to Legal & General, we’ll commit to you too. That means we’ll recognise and reward your hard work, your performance and your contribution.
