We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join us in the DataOps team! This team enables the business to derive value from its enterprise data by delivering a modern data platform fit for the challenges ahead. In this role you will lead the project driven work and support as a mentor and coach for the Engineers. You will be highly technical and able to participate in hands-on development when needed.

You will manage a team of Data Engineers responsible for designing, building & implementing a variety of data solutions using modern Extract Transform Load techniques & tools.

  • Ensuring the solutions developed and delivered by you & your Engineering team are fit for purpose. 
  • Liaising with the end customers, Architect & Product Owner to translate business goals into compliant specifications that facilitate the delivery of the technical solution & can be used by any engineer.
  • Deliveries should be GDPR compliant, meet the business requirements and adhere to Governance and Architecture standards.
  • Work within an agile delivery framework as part of a Scrum team, facilitating events and supporting the team break deliveries down into technical bite-sized tasks.
  • Peer review solutions and provide support to other members of the team.
  • Providing input into team & project planning activities .
  • Responsible for maintaining and evolving standards.
  • Attending the DataOps forums (standards, modelling and change boards) to achieve continued improvements into our delivery methods, standards and documentation.
  • Providing mentorship & support to junior & mid-level data engineers in your team & be a role model to colleagues across the Data Ops function.
  • Treating Customers Fairly – Ensure that our application estate has core values embedded around ensuring value is provided fairly to all of our customers.
  • Managing the team in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures, including the Partnership Agreement, so that the team’s business objectives are achieved consistently.
  • Professional qualifications in Data Engineering or related specialism
  • Someone highly proficient across these domains of data engineering, including ELT/ETL, metadata management, data integration, data management in transit and at rest & data streaming.
  • Working knowledge of Kimball modelling techniques to design databases & data warehousing solutions that conform to the standards adopted by Data Ops & shows other how to do this.
  • You'll be able to use modern project delivery methodologies to plan, lead & deliver solutions (Agile, Waterfall etc) & manages team resource in partnership with the Product Owners.
  • Have a expert & detailed working knowledge of the tools & platforms used by the Engineering Team. Wherescape RED, Snowflake, PowerShell & SQL and introducing Azure Data Factory and dbt this year.
  • Demonstrates logical and lateral thinking considering all angles in their decision making and supports others to do this.
  • Uses technology to solve business problems & has a proven track record of delivering data engineering solutions alone and as part of a team.
  • Has the ability to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in existing services by understanding current market offerings in the data engineering space.
  • Has the ability to communicate to all levels of stakeholders to demonstrate complex data engineering issues to non-technical stakeholders & technical colleagues alike.
