As an Actuarial Operations Manager you will manage the delivery of an effective and efficient financial reporting service for L&G Retirement’s Financial Reporting.

This will include providing relevant data, assumptions, financial results validation (for all metrics), and any supporting analysis and/or commentary in a timely manner and to the appropriate level of quality. As well as disseminating financial information in an effective and informative manner, ensuring its presentation and analysis meets the requirements of the varied customer base you provide information to.

You will also assist the Head of Department in building collaborative working relationships with the Divisional Reporting team, Group Functions, and other key stakeholders to maximise the overall performance of the Business Unit.

You will also help to lead, manage and develop more junior members of the team in this exciting new role is based from our newly refurbished Hove Offices.

This position would be ideal for a Newly Qualified Actuary who is looking to take the next step in their career.

  • Ensuring deliveries meet the necessary reporting timescales and any ad hoc requests are delivered in a controlled and timely basis. This will involve prioritising tasks, agreeing delivery dates with the Divisional Reporting team and ensuring key changes in reporting timescales/processes are appropriately `bought into’ and agreed through the correct approval processes.
  • Continuously reviewing processes and capabilities to identify opportunities to strengthen the production environment, processes and systems used and where possible implementing these improvements. This will include moving repeatable, non-judgement processes to the Production Centre and providing strong controls and checks when transferred.
  • Maintaining a close relationship with the Production Centre so that processes are still well understood by the reporting team.
  • Actively encouraging a positive environment within the team, where all members of the team seek and feel comfortable to continually identify and deliver improvements.
  • Assisting the Head of Department in leading the LGR Operations Reporting processes across all metrics (IFRS/SII) to ensure robustness and timeliness of all deliveries specified in the SLA, including all required commentary.
  • Assisting the Head of Department in leading the LGR Operations Reporting team through all planning phases, including influencing the planning of the team’s reporting activities.
  • Assisting the Head of Department in leading the team to present and disseminate results to the external and internal customer, incorporating supporting analysis and commentary for all reporting metrics as required. 
  • Assisting the Head of Department in leading the ongoing liaison by continually developing and maintaining proactive engagement to ensure the delivery of financial results and analysis continues to meet needs and quality expectations. Whilst also engaging with the other Business Units to centralise reporting functions.
  • Understanding and communicating financial results effectively across the business and helping the team to widen their knowledge and understanding of the financial results.
  • Effectively communicating complex actuarial methodologies and assumptions to other areas of the business, such as risk functions to enable effective and efficient consolidation of results.
  • Assisting the Head of Department in leading the change requirements and ensuring that all legislation and regulatory changes are understood, planned and implemented appropriately.
  • Assisting the Head of Department in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.
  • Newly Qualified Actuary with some work experience (ideally within a Life Company but we would also be open to applicants from other backgrounds too)
  • A good understanding/knowledge of the following: Reporting metrics (including IFRS and SII), Annuities products & the UK Financial sector.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage stakeholders and change your communication style to suit your audience.
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and organisational skills.
  • UK Financial Reporting experience or an actuarial/accounting role in a result and change environment would be highly advantageous.
  • Previous people management experience would be highly advantageous but is not a pre-requisite for the role.
