We are looking for a Process Improvement Actuary to join our Retirement Division.

This role would be ideal for someone with hands on experience in C#, C++, Python (or other equivalent programming languages) who enjoys project & collaboration work.

In this role you will be responsible for improving the current technical tools that are used within the Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) business from an efficiency perspective.

The main focus is on increasing the computational efficiency of tools and processes across the Pricing and Execution Team; including New Business Pricing and Business Services. You will be able understand and elicit the detailed business requirements and have the skills and expertise to articulate the business logic and calculations.

By working in partnership with the developers you will ensure that EUCS are replaced wherever possible, and will be able to develop, often in partnership with the developers, viable, efficient and scalable alternatives through a variety of computational languages and approaches, as appropriate.

You will also be part of an existing continuous delivery team (CDM); which champions partnership thinking, continuous delivery practices and plays a key role in working across teams to ensure consistency in approach and timeliness of updates within L&G Retirement.

  • Working closely with the new business pricing team to identify current processes which can be improved, either from a computational efficiency or mathematical perspective.
  • Mapping existing processes which are possible subjects for improvement and to postulate alternatives. Working with the development team where necessary to refine those recommendations into planned improvement processes.
  • Supporting the end users of PRT pricing tools, including assisting with communication/training for and providing desktop support for specific queries.
  • Maintaining and developing an appropriate test/regression pack to ensure good code coverage and robustness of the review process for tool releases.
  • Working closely with the wider Platform and Processes team and developers to ensure that on-desk tool developments are consistent and compatible with the direction of travel for other strategic technologies.
  • Assisting ad-hoc exercises on behalf of the Pricing Team to meet the requirements of various risk frameworks (e.g. MRCF, GDPR, Internal Audit ‘Spotlights’, etc)
  • Supporting the Pricing Team in the testing of selected pricing developments and completion of other regular tasks as appropriate.
  • Considering the needs of the particular target markets for products and tailor the service proposition to meet those needs effectively.
  • A qualified actuary, or similar relevant experience in developing Insurance/Financial models or Pricing models.
  • Programming experience is essential - Languages including, but not limited to C#, C++, Python & R.
  • Experience with cloud services (e.g. Azure or AWS) and databases (e.g. SQL) is preferred.
  • An understanding of occupational pensions or the bulk annuity market (is highly advantageous, but not a requirement)
  • Business Test Capability.
  • User Story Definition – being able to clearly express and articulate detailed logical business specifications, along with acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and work closely as part of an agile team.

When you commit to Legal & General, we’ll commit to you too. That means we’ll recognise and reward your hard work, your performance and your contribution.

If you join us, you’ll get access to some great benefits, including private medical insurance, 27 days holiday (excluding bank holidays), a generous pension scheme, life assurance, and Income Protection. You can participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice.
