We are currently recruiting for a Regulatory Developments Consultant to join our growing team. 

In this role, you will support the comprehensive oversight of Regulatory developments in all territories in which we operate. This support will be given indirectly through receiving regular and timely updates from non-UK based colleagues and directly through the ongoing monitoring of relevant information sources in the UK and liaising with divisional second line colleagues in impacted business units. 

  • Horizon Scanning: Undertake horizon scanning activities to monitor UK and European regulatory developments, provide same day updates to management on more significant regulatory developments, provide weekly regulatory updates group-wide. Ensure appropriate, timely and accurate records of developments are retained.
  • Advocacy and drafting: Influence policy development by ensuring our views on key topics are represented in consultations with high quality written responses to regulators, coordinating input from across the Group, managing stakeholders and the submission process as required. Develop relationships with industry bodies to support advocacy work.
  • Regulatory Change communication: Support divisions and legal entities to understand regulatory developments, draft summaries and articles, undertake gap analysis, identify changes to processes, procedures and technology required. Support the development of commonality of approaches to regulatory change in UK businesses by facilitating joined-up-thinking by UK divisions. Establish and maintain open, trusted and respected working relationships with key contacts in overseas entities. 
  • Regulatory Change Reporting: Draft reports and updates, as required, to inform a variety of internal stakeholders. This includes periodic and ad hoc reporting and requests in relation to regulatory developments. Present on the developments at committee, board or team meetings as required.
  • Group Oversight:  Support the undertaking of group oversight activities, as required, to ensure regulatory change is appropriately sponsored, well planned and executed within divisions and entities. Ensure the Conduct Risk function is receiving appropriate updates on impacts and actions from the divisions.
  • Thought Leadership: Initiate and support any thought leadership activity on regulatory developments being undertaken by the sub-team, as required.  For example, the role holder may be requested to undertake regulatory research as part of a thought leadership project.
  • Technical Advice: Provide advice and guidance on regulatory matters across the group (subject to line management oversight and technical supervision when providing the advice if required). Responding to technical queries, hosting of awareness raising events, such as lunch and learns, to help other members of the Conduct Risk function to upskill.

The role holder will have good knowledge of the following:

  • The regulatory environment in which an authorised firm operates.
  • FCA, TPR and FOS rules and the structure of the FCA handbook and associated documents so that relevant rules and guidance can be identified and interpreted quickly.
  • Awareness of the various regulators relevant to the activities of L&G, along with their areas of responsibilities.
  • L&G’s position within the industry relative to its competitors.
  • Financial services products available in the marketplace.
  • Risks and benefits of the products within L&G’s current product range.
  • L&G strategy and direction.
  • L&G corporate structure and corporate governance arrangements.
  • L&G distribution channels.
  • Good experience managing relationships with external parties.
  • Strong experience of financial services, preferably life, pensions and asset management sectors.
  • Strong experience of providing technical compliance and risk advice and guidance which is well calibrated with consideration of business and regulatory priorities. 
  • Good influencing skills.
  • Sound judgement in the effective management of issues.
  • Logical and common sense thinking in the management / collation of regulatory responses and logging of relevant regulatory changes.
  • Understanding of business change activity and programme and project management.
  • Drafting skills will be of a high standard.
