You'll support the Head of Audit (HoA) by designing, driving and delivering a portfolio of high-quality risk-based audit services across the Group Functions, including cross-divisional thematic audits. Assists in the management of key GIA stakeholders by providing independent opinions and assurance on the strength of the control framework and the effectiveness of business risk management.

  • Conduct annual risk assessment and half year refresh, across areas of the audit universe agreed with the HoA in line with GIA approach and collaborate with HoA in development and updating of the annual audit plan for those areas.
  • Execute the risk-based audit plan as allocated by the HoA on time and to agreed budgets, ensuring Terms of Reference focus audit activity on areas of most significant business risk. Manage the workload of assigned audit resources in collaboration with other SAMs where applicable. Monitor the quality of audit files to ensure all audit work complies with GIA’s audit methodology and standards. Constructively engage with external QA
  • Identify where technology such as data analytics, process mining or machine learning can be used to improve the insight and or efficiency from audit work and plan and lead the execution of this work where applicable.
  • Communicate audit results to responsible management and agree commercially viable audit recommendations and business actions to address areas of risk and failures in the control framework. Challenge management to agree ambitious but achievable issue closure dates and actively track agreed actions to completion with strong focus on timely resolution of risks
  • Develop and execute liaison plan with key internal and external stakeholders relationship, to communicate relevant audit results, maintain focus on issue closure and ensure business plans, initiatives and emerging risks are incorporated within GIA’s risk assessment and audit plans where appropriate.
  • Monitor and anticipates regulatory and business change using divisional audit watch lists, assess the potential impact and propose exceptional audits / other assurance responses as required.
  • Provide input to GIA commentary to the Group Audit Committee, Executive Management, relevant business division Boards and Risk & Compliance Committees, on significant areas of concern and the remedial actions required to mitigate risk to the Group. Represent GIA at relevant forums.
  • Actively assists the HoA in the administration of the divisional team
  • Support development of junior team members through coaching within audits and constructive feedback.
  • Engage in wider GIA improvement projects aligned to GIA long term vision
  • Ensures that the principles of treating consumers fairly are embedded into management practices, so that identified risks recognise relevant consumer outcomes, and business processes and internal controls are structured and performed in a way that effectively delivers the required consumer outcomes
  • Professional auditing, accounting, or actuarial qualification (CIIA, ACA, ACCA)
  • Knowledge of Internal Audit Standards, Financial Services Code and broader principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Risk management principles and practices including Conduct and Prudential regulation.
  • Insurance/Life and pensions background would be preferable
  • Subject matter expertise to support areas of audit delivery – in non-financial risk areas (e.g. operational, conduct, financial crime risks) and financial risk (e.g. broad understanding of Solvency II regulations).
  • Extensive experience supporting the overall capabilities of the divisional audit team (e.g. managing internal audit and assurance delivery within a financial services context).
  • Experience directing and delivering a programme of audits, leading technical or complex reviews and providing overall quality control.
