Are you a senior qualified actuary with detailed understanding of Solvency II principles and knowledge and experience of actuarial liability reporting and analysis across various metrics?

If so, then Legal & General has a brilliant opportunity for you to join in an integral, exciting, visible role in our Group function which will entail people management, supporting our Group Chief Actuary and communicating complex ideas to a variety of audiences, including senior management, and building relationships throughout L&G.

This role is core to a number of metrics within the Group Actuarial Reporting team. With two direct reports, this role will ensure the delivery of Group and LGAS results, and lead improvements in reporting processes and methodology. This role will primarily cover:

  • Maintaining the methodology for the Group and LGAS Solvency II Transitional Measure on Technical Provisions (TMTP), advising the Group and LGAS Chief Actuaries on potential changes and ensuring it remains compliant with Solvency II rules and Group approvals. Calculate the TMTP and assist the Chief Actuaries in reporting to audit committees and the PRA. Prepare regulatory applications and approvals as required.
  • Consolidation and analysis of LGAS IFRS results, including liabilities, Strain and annual market disclosures. Communicate results to senior leaders including the Chief Actuaries and Director of Group Finance.
  • Management of the Solvency II Standard Formula calculation for LGAS and Group. Prepare and present reports as required to the Chief Actuaries, Group Internal Model Committee and, if necessary, the PRA.
  • Ownership of the methodology, production and communication of the LGAS US GAAP liabilities for the annual recertification of LGAS as a US reinsurer.
  • Support embedding IFRS 17 into BAU for Group Actuarial and take responsibility for revising processes for which the role holder is responsible.
  • Support the Group Chief Actuary in driving the regulatory change agenda and consultations on changes to the regulatory regime, providing data, analysis and opinion as required.
  • Ensuring compliance with governance and policies across the Group, including MRCF, FCF and EUC standards.

We support and offer hybrid and flexible ways of working, and this role can be based in either London or Hove. You will be able to work in an agile way from both the home and the office, visiting the office to meet, engage and collaborate with team members or stakeholders at the office.

  1. Delivery management: Manage the timely delivery of results, meeting required internal and external deadlines and managing the expectations of different stakeholders. Ability to cover multiple tasks at once.
  2. Financial management: Develop and build in-depth knowledge of the various financial metrics covered by the team, including IFRS, Solvency II (Internal Model and Standard Formula) and US GAAP.
  3. Internal relationship and senior stakeholder management: Build and maintain relationships with relevant contacts in Business Units, Group Finance, Group Performance and Prudential Risk.
  4. Development and Improvements: Identify, manage and lead the implementation of improvements to processes, and support development work in other areas around the Group.
  5. Maintain and Comply with Standards: Comply with the relevant Group and Professional Standards, in particular MRCF, FCF and Group EUC standards.
  6. Treating Customers Fairly (TCF)
  7. People management partnership accountabilities: To manage direct reports in accordance with the company's policies and procedures, including the Partnership Agreement, so that the team’s business objectives are achieved consistently.

We are seeking to recruit a qualified actuary with experience of actuarial liability reporting and analysis across various metrics. 

Your experience will ideally include:

  • Data analysis, able to apply financial analysis techniques and draw conclusions from that analysis
  • Problem solving; the ability to apply fresh and creative thinking and to develop new strategies
  • The ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences, including senior management, both in writing and verbally
  • A pragmatic approach and the ability to make sensible decisions with limited information
  • Experience of modelling, proficient in the use of Excel and Word
  • Experience of managing a team of people to produce timely results
