We are looking for an actuarial analyst with a strong statistical/coding background to join our Risk Pricing & Analytics team in our Retail - Commercial division as a Risk Pricing Analyst.

In this role you will provide data analytics and make use of data and models to gain insight into performance, risk drivers and set assumptions for L&G's Individual Protection products.

You will also support the development of new approaches to setting demographic assumptions, using the latest statistical models, and applying key actuarial techniques.

This is a hybrid working opportunity, which means you can split your working week flexibly between your home and either our London office (in Moorgate) or our Hove office to help achieve a work-life balance which suits you.

  • Supporting all areas of the Risk Pricing & Analytics team to help maintain L&G as one of the UK’s leading market providers of Individual Protection products.
  • Designing and implementing data analytics models for monitoring performance and setting assumptions. This will include seeking improvements to data quality by contributing to system developments and by working with internal & external customers.
  • Producing and interpreting the results of the experience investigations, employing data analysis and modelling techniques such as generalised linear modelling.
  • Assisting in the development of best estimate bases for protection products. This involves the construction of base, trends and lapse tables.
  • Providing clear, concise and well communicated summaries of all analysis and present these findings to key stakeholders and at committees to achieve sign-off for proposals.
  • Providing ongoing education to stakeholders to ensure quality decisions are made based off this data analysis.

 

  • Member of the Institute of Actuaries (ideally with between 4 and 12 actuarial exam passes)
  • Working knowledge of UK Life Insurance products and reinsurance market.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to manipulate complex spreadsheets and VBA code.
  • Knowledge of relevant actuarial/statistical modelling platforms (e.g. Emblem), data manipulation tools (e.g. SAS or R) would be advantageous, as would experience using Data visualisation software such as Tableau / PowerBI.
  • Conceptual thinking about hard abstract problems and the ability to solve them with smart, creative and elegant solutions, with a preference for simplicity.
  • Practical experience conducting experience analyses.
  • Background in assumption setting within a Life Insurance environment would be advantageous.
  • Confidence to put forward ideas, identify & act upon opportunities to enhance the performance of the team.
  • Effective in planning, organising and managing your own time. Someone who can appropriately prioritise multiple demands and meet targets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

The role you are applying to is part of our rotational program, designed to further develop and enhance your skills, and as part of this program you will be expected to rotate in both of our sites in London and Hove.
