Here at Legal & General we are exciting to be recruiting a qualified actuary into our Legal & General Insurance Finance team.

This role will have responsibility for producing relevant financial performance MI with a focus on New Business Value Add (NBVA) as well as supporting management initiatives and planning exercises to improve business performance.

You will be directly supporting the RP Head of Financial Performance in managing and optimising the RP financial results on an ongoing basis across all financial measures, including the developing IFRS17 regime. 

We support and offer hybrid and flexible ways of working, and whilst One Coleman Street in the City would be your home base, you will be able to work in an agile way, visiting the office when the need to meet, engage and collaborate with team members or stakeholders at the office arises.

  1. Work with the RP business to leverage financial insight and promote appropriate management actions. Develop relationships with stakeholders across the business, supporting strategic and commercial decisions by supporting the development of deep financial analytical capability within the LGI Finance team.  Increasing the understanding of the key drivers of financial performance including the IFRS17 regime.
  2. Support the development of financial management initiatives to support the businesses performance with a focus on the optimisation of NBVA. Develop relationships with key senior stakeholders in the commercial and distribution teams to ensure these initiatives gain support across the business.
  3. Support the annual business planning exercise for the UK RP insurance business across all financial metrics (IFRS, Solvency II, cash). Work across all business areas to monitor progress against Plan throughout the financial year and proactively identify methods to resolve any underperformance versus Plan to help the CFO manage the performance of the RP business.
  4. Working closely with the Financial Planning and Reporting team, define, build and refine the reporting and MI capability to ensure robust, accurate and timely financial and product performance data. Lead on the production of the monthly granular NBVA metrics and work with senior stakeholders in the commercial and distribution teams to ensure deep understanding of the metrics and performance versus Plan.
  5. Remain abreast of regulatory and accounting standard changes impacting Retail Protection, including assessing financial impacts and ensuring appropriate action is taken to manage financial outcomes.
  6. Liaise with other areas within LGI and the Financial Reporting team to ensure robust and timely production and communication of financial metrics. Assist the Head of Financial Performance, RP in managing and/or coordinating changes to assumptions underlying the financial results.
  7. Ensure all analysis, decisions made and activity undertaken in fulfilling of this role consider the fair treatment of our customers (TCF).

Qualifications:

  • Qualified actuary

Knowledge:

  • Strong Excel skills with the ability to produce technical calculations using Excel containing a clear audit trail and controls.
  • Experience in using Prophet. Prophet development experience is desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience in using other data analytic tools is desirable; as this role will also help the team develop data automation techniques where appropriate.
  • Broad all-round knowledge and awareness of the relevant risk and regulatory frameworks and the ability to seek advice when necessary.

Experience:

  • Financial management / financial reporting experience within a Life office and experience of working with a range of Reporting Measures primarily IFRS and Solvency II.
  • Awareness of actuarial techniques for valuation of liabilities and future profits.
  • Understanding of a range of Protection products and reporting metrics.

Leadership:

  • Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills
