At Legal & General we have a brilliant opportunity for a qualified actuary to join us as Financial Reporting Manager.

Working closely with our Head of Insurance Reporting, your role will entail managing the delivery of an effective and efficient financial reporting service relating to Workplace Savings business, providing financial results for all metrics, supporting analysis and commentary on a timely basis and to the appropriate level of quality.

You will disseminate financial information in an effective and informative manner, ensuring its presentation and analysis meet the wide background and experience of the customer base.

We support and offer hybrid and flexible ways of working, and whilst our Hove site is the office you would visit, you will be able to work in an agile way, visiting the office when the need arises to meet, engage and collaborate with team members or stakeholders at the office from time to time.

  1. Delivery management. Manage the timely delivery of financial reporting results, for all metrics, meeting required internal and external standards.
  2. Financial management. Manage the delivery of timely and predictable Insurance financial results across an agreed range of financial metrics (e.g. IFRS operating profit, Net Cash, New Business margin, SII SCR). Highlight opportunities to maximise Business unit performance across the agreed range of financial metrics and challenge business plans and initiatives to ensure plans deliver the anticipated business benefits. Monitor progress of the agreed plans and provide corrective measures where necessary.
  3. Customer relationship management. Manage the presentation and dissemination of results to the external and internal customer, incorporating supporting analysis and commentary for all reporting metrics.  Manage ongoing liaison by continually developing and maintaining proactive engagement to ensure the delivery of financial results continues to meet needs and quality expectations.
  4. Process and Change management. Manage the development, support and maintenance of the team’s financial reporting systems, processes and reporting methodologies, ensuring they are robust, incorporating system and process change as required for the ongoing production of the financial results. Identify and manage implementation of continuous improvement to processes.
  5. Internal relationship management. Manage the relationship with the relevant Shared Services and Prudential Risk and Group Finance functions, ensuring that the Insurance Reporting team acquires and maintains end-to-end knowledge and accountability for the financial results relating to that Business Unit. Provide expert analysis to the Actuarial Consolidation team to enable effective and efficient consolidation of results. Manage the relationship with the FRC Actuarial Operations to ensure the Insurance Reporting team requirements are understood and documented in terms of timeliness and quality referencing the key dependencies on this service for the reporting cycle.
  6. External relationship management – consultants, peer reviews and auditors Manage the relationship with the relevant external consultants, peer reviewers and auditors.
  7. Planning. Assist in the management of the Insurance Reporting team through all planning phases by effectively prioritising and scheduling the team’s reporting activities, meeting the needs of all customers. Contribute to wider FRC team planning and resource allocation.
  8. People management. Manage, motivate and develop employees at all levels, in a manner that is consistent with the company’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement, to maximise the performance of the area.
  9. Maintain and Comply with Standards. Comply with the relevant Group and Professional Standards – for example L&G Spreadsheet Standards, L&G Group Policies & Procedures and Technical Actuarial Standards.

Qualifications:

Typically the jobholder will be a nearly qualified or qualified actuary (up to 4 years' PQE) with experience within a life insurance company / life insurance consulting role. We will also consider candidates with a background in pensions consulting. 

Knowledge and Experience:

Typically the jobholder will have knowledge of the following reporting metrics including IFRS and Solvency II and good UK Financial Reporting experience.
