Are you considering the next chapter of your actuarial career in 2022?

Are you a qualified actuary with experience in life insurance and an enquiring mind?

Does the thought of being part of a high-performing team at a market-leading and multi-award winning business excite you?

If so, look no further than here. At Legal & General we are recruiting a Reporting Actuary to join us. You will lead the production of specified statutory, external or internal financial results within LGR, providing high-quality results, supporting analysis and commentary, and making certain that appropriate controls are in place to ensure sound actuarial management and control of risks.

You will also lead and manage junior members of the LGR Reporting team effectively whilst proactively supporting other Reporting Actuaries in the team.

We support and offer hybrid and flexible ways of working, and whilst One Coleman Street in the City would be your home base, you will be able to work in an agile way, visiting the office when the need to meet, engage and collaborate with team members or stakeholders at the office arises.

  1. Financial metrics delivery: Own the output of specified financial metrics, delivering in a timely and accurate manner. These financial metrics include IFRS operating profit, Solvency II operating variances, risk margin, liability sensitivities and new business reporting. Proactively support other reporting actuaries to ensure we meet the needs of our customers. Ensure that reporting decisions are documented and receive the appropriate level of governance.
  2. Stakeholder relationship management: Represent LGR Finance for financial reporting and related MI within the company appropriately. Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders including other teams in LGR Finance, LGR Investments, Group Finance and auditors.  Ensure communication is clear, concise and tailored to the needs of stakeholders. Own the continual development and maintenance of proactive engagement to ensure deliveries continue to meet needs and the quality expected.
  3. Management and Planning: Own the effective planning of activities required for assigned deliveries, allocating resources to meet the needs of stakeholders. This will include maintenance and development of reporting assumptions and methodology.
  4. People Management: Take direct responsibility for managing employees at grades 1 to 4 whilst being a role model to employees at all grades across the wider reporting team. This will include active engagement in coaching and motivating employees in a manner consistent with the Company’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement, to maximise the performance of the area.
  5. Process management and improvement: Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of the team’s reporting systems, and processes. Ensure systems and processes are robust, with any associated risks assessed and appropriately controlled.  Demonstrate an attitude of continuous improvement, taking responsibility for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of specified areas within the team.
  6. Change management: Support the Head of Base Reporting and senior reporting actuaries in the prioritisation and implementation of system, process and methodology changes as required for the ongoing production of financial results and analysis.  Work closely with other teams within LGR Finance and Group Finance to support the wider change agenda.
  7. Risk and Control: Demonstrate a risk and control mind set through proactive identification of control weaknesses, and ensure that all such weaknesses, as well as other control observations and issues are remediated quickly, sustainably, and effectively. Work with the Financial Controls team to ensure that relevant risk and control related documentation is good quality and up to date. Demonstrate awareness, understanding, and appropriate action in relation to your personal responsibilities for information security, specifically around access management, data handling (encryption and classification), password control and building security.
  8. Treating Customers Fairly (TCF)

Qualifications:

Does this opportunity excite you but you’re not 100% sure if you meet all the requirements for the role? Or are you concerned that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t possible given your personal circumstances? We’re aware that candidates, especially women, can be put off from applying for a job unless they tick every box, or candidates who are parents or have other caring responsibilities may not think they can achieve the flexibility they need.
