To strategically manage and optimise Procurement’s influence on external category spend by developing effective category scope stakeholder relationships and maintaining supply market expertise to drive best value for money and minimise supply chain risk.  This role looks for market opportunities and operates strategically and proactively with stakeholders, peers and suppliers to drive innovation and positive change.  The role holder will also proactively manage the Professional Services & Consultancy category to reduce cost, drive innovation and mitigate risk.

INFLUENCE WIDER PROCUREMENT STRATEGY:- Create, implement and optimise the strategy for the procurement of appropriate goods and / or services. Generate value for money by delivering cost out and cost down initiatives and driving innovation and competitive advantage. Utilise digital tools, sourcing specialists, best practice and latest approaches to deliver value and innovation.

EVALUATE & SELECT SUPPLIERS:-Undertake ad-hoc and on-going industry and supply market analysis and implement appropriate supply models to deliver business aims, objectives and operational requirements. Lead the evaluation of supply solutions and undertaken appropriate supplier selection processes.

CUSTOMER FOCUS:- Develop robust and effective stakeholder relationships with key decision-makers. Influence thinking and operate as a trusted adviser that is seen to offer real category expertise and add genuine value.

MANAGING RISKS:- Comply fully with the roles and responsibilities detailed in the relevant Legal & General policies including but not limited to: Group Policy & Procedures, Group Procurement Policy and Ethical Purchasing Principles. Ensure all CSR elements are considered and issues such as Modern Slavery are suitably addressed in any Procurement activity & Category plans.

MAINTAIN COMMERCIAL AWARENESS:- Maintain a commercial and technological awareness relevant to category scope and develop and maintain peer and supplier networks. Maintain relevant subject matter expertise on supply markets, procurement initiatives, trends and best practice to identify and exploit commercial opportunities.

TREATING CUSTOMERS FAIRLY:-In all situations where suppliers provide goods and services directly to our external customers, ensure that procurement activity and supplier relationships are managed in line with Legal & General’s Customer Experience and Treating Customers Fairly Policy. 

 

  • A strong understanding of the in scope categories required by the role and a detailed knowledge of the relevant supply market & best practice sourcing models.
  • A thorough understanding of procurement tools and techniques relevant to category scope.
  • Ability to select appropriate procurement strategies / procedures and manage the selection of suppliers and negotiate robust legally binding contracts on behalf of L&G. 
  • A demonstrable knowledge of techniques, relevant to category scope to deliver continuous cost savings and add value to business units.
  • A good understanding of supply chain risk and mitigation strategies for in scope categories and latest industry issues.
  • Knowledge and contribution to the GPSM  risk return and reporting. A good understanding of the legal aspects of contracting with suppliers.
  • A strong understanding of the in scope categories required by the role and a detailed knowledge of the relevant supply market & best practice sourcing models.
