We have an excellent Senior Software Engineer role within the engineering function at Legal and General Investment Management! You will work within an Agile (Scrum/SAFe) project team focused on hands on development as well taking the lead within a team of developers, sharing common processes and tooling. The team develops across a broad set of technologies and platforms, including: Java microservices, OpenShift, Kafka, Apache Nifi, Camunda, Jenkins, CI/CD and integrating with both internal and external platform partners.

  • Taking the Lead in engaging, motivating and nurturing other developers to understand and maximise their full potential, ensuring high levels of engagement, professionalism and contribution to the business
  • Implementing features, enhancements and improvements to Java-based applications in an agile environment
  • Designing and architecting robust and scalable systems using microservice and event-based architectures
  • Taking ownership for delivering your changes from test through to production environments by utilising CD deployment pipelines
  • Ensuring there are robust technical design, review and standards for the development of Java microservices, internally facing web front ends and Postgres/MongoDB databases
  • Ensuring the codebase stays at a high standard by participating in code reviews, writing unit tests, refactoring, security hardening etc
  • Reviewing and setting standards for Unit Testing for all coding and then providing support to any Quality Assurance and User Acceptance Testing as deemed appropriate
  • Contributing to the culture of innovation and continuous improvement by implementing new ideas
  • We are looking for lots of technical experience in Java (Springboot/ Quarkus) and Kafka
  • Kubernetes and Docker experience is key, it would be great if you also have some Angular experience
  • A proven track record working in an agile environment, with a solid background in scaled enterprise microservice development
  • Fantastic communication skills – you love using your leadership capabilities to motivate and cultivate a high performing engineering team
  • Significant hands-on experience in integrating systems and database design and build
  • You’ll have designed and implemented solutions for highly transactional business processes and have a clear understanding of how such solutions are supported in production
  •  Experience with on-premise and cloud implementation patterns, as well as designing and building for a cloud environment
  • An understanding of application and integration patterns and event-based systems design
  • You can see the bigger strategic picture, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and articulate them to stakeholders
