This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with relevant professional experience in asset class research and trade idea generation in a multi asset context. The role sits in the Asset Allocation team based in London. The group of strategists and researchers develop investment ideas for multi-asset portfolios, taking account of macro-economic views from the economists and working closely together with the multi-asset fund managers who decide on suitability of those ideas for portfolios. The role will be predominantly focused on supporting the investment process with trade idea generation, using a mostly macro-fundamental approach supported by quantitative analysis.

LGIM’s Asset Allocation division manages all multi-asset portfolios across the firm, totalling over £50 billion of assets across pooled and segregated discretionary multi-asset funds. There are three teams within Asset Allocation:

  1. Economics Team: responsible for the economic outlook that forms the bedrock of dynamic risk-taking, and the basis for communication with clients on the strategic investment landscape
  2. Multi-Asset Research & Strategy: responsible for asset class research and proposing tactical asset allocation strategies
  3. Multi-Asset Funds: responsible for management of the team’s portfolios

All three teams work very closely together, so people in each team continue to support and assist other teams. The role will cover a range of responsibilities. That involves:

  • Asset class research and enhancing and supporting our strategic asset allocation efforts
  • Macro-fundamental research and market analysis to support the investment process – research can cover strategic questions as well as more tactical topics
  • Working closely with the currency strategist providing support in our currency trade idea formation and management of positions
  • Broadening out our ESG framework to include more asset classes and deepening the research in case we consider implementing particular baskets
  • Any other research projects in support of idea generation with a focus on long-only funds – this involves close cooperation with senior fund managers who will decide on priorities
  • Establishing credibility among fund managers and other colleagues as an expert researcher and market strategist
  • Developing tools and models that input into the wider investment process
  • Presenting research to different audiences across the business

The strategist will also help the team’s communication and marketing strategy. Clear communication of research and strategy is essential and there will be some external client contact.

  • Ideally +5 years’ relevant work experience in asset class research covering FX, equities, alternatives and/or ESG, although the research field is truly multi-asset
  • Ideally the candidate has owned some risk in portfolios before or has been actively part of the decision-making process
  • The candidate to bring quantitative skills in support of a more macro-fundamental and market-oriented approach
  • Expertise in handling bigger data sets, coding (preferably python) and having expertise in statistics and/or econometrics
  • Ability to work across a range of different projects and topics, on their own and in conjunction with others

Whatever your role, we reward ability, performance and attitude with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Our employees have a wide range of benefits including a generous pension scheme, life assurance, 27 days' holiday, private medical insurance, performance related bonuses, a variety of share schemes, discounts at both a huge range of high street stores and our own great products. Your hard work will be rewarded when you join us.
