Are you looking for a summer internship that is technically challenging? One that develops commercial acumen alongside your technical skills?

We’re looking for current undergraduates who can answer “yes” to the above for our 2021 Investment Summer Internship Scheme. If you’re successful, you’ll join Legal & General’s well-regarded investment community, which plays a pivotal role in our continued success.

Within LGC is "Future Cities", comprising of three sector-specialist teams: Urban Regeneration (UR), Digital Infrastructure and Clean Energy.

The Intern will be placed with UR team, whose purpose is to invest Group capital into improving the built environment in cities that have seen relatively low recent investment, including supporting the government's "Build Back Better" and "Levelling Up" initiatives. The UR team has investments in various properties (including office, residential, retail, media and science) in cities across the UK (such as Leeds, Manchester, Cardiff and Newcastle).

The Intern’s tasks will include but not be limited to:

  • Helping to perform research tasks to support the assumptions behind UR's investments
  • Assisting with due diligence tasks to support investment decisions, for example reviewing commercial property assumptions across our direct investment pipeline
  • Contributing toward the updating and review of assumptions in the Excel cashflow models that support UR's investments
  • Collating information for LGC's internal reporting and compliance requirements
  • Supporting the team in preparing Powerpoint presentations for our Investment Committee
  • Involvement in the day-to-day management of our investment partners
  • Improving team processes with fresh perspectives and ideas

There will also be opportunities to support the Digital Infrastructure and Clean Energy teams if of interest.

First and foremost, we’re looking for people with an inquisitive mind and a desire to learn. We’re not expecting prior industry experience, but we’ll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. The ideal candidate will be:

  • Interested in the built environment/commercial property and passionate about LGC's/the UR team's social purpose
  • Willing to learn, inquisitive and a critical thinker
  • Proactive and enthusiastic
  • Organised and methodical
  • Friendly, approachable and comfortable collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
  • On track for a 2:1 degree in any subject

An internship offers you the chance to gain valuable work experience and develop and refine skills that will be useful for you in your future career.

About L&G

As a company, to be one of the world's largest Asset Managers, homebuilders, pension providers and insurances brands, we are diverse by our very nature. And we're a company that wants to use our diversity and influence to make society better in the long term - for everyone. To do this we need to be a company that welcomes everyone, where everyone can succeed. That means we're committed to building an inclusive culture in L&G where we can all perform at our best, no matter who we are, what we do or where we do it. So whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever your story, we'd love to hear from you.

About the business area

Legal & General Capital (LGC) invests the Group’s balance sheet in assets that shape society; creating jobs, transforming communities, improving our social and physical environment and changing lives to create a better, brighter future, while protecting and growing our hard-earned retirement savings.

We are creating a sustainable built ecosystem that supports our future world, delivering modern work environments and high-quality homes that create communities; technology to help us achieve carbon neutrality; and digital infrastructure to connect systems, people and places.

By investing long-dated UK pension money, we are improving lives and delivering extraordinary social outcomes; creating real jobs, high quality and varied housing and better infrastructure.

Our commitment to Equal Opportunities

We’re an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation, gender identity or age.

Does this opportunity excite you but you’re not 100% sure if you meet all the requirements for the role? Or are you concerned that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t possible given your personal circumstances? We’re aware that candidates, especially women, can be put off from applying for a job unless they tick every box, or candidates who are parents or have other caring responsibilities may not think they can achieve the flexibility they need. If this is you, we’re keen to connect; and whilst we can’t accommodate every flexible working request, we’ll try to find a practical solution. So why not apply?
