Legal & General Affordable Homes (LGAH) has a requirement for a Paralegal who, reporting to the Head of Securitisation & Asset Control, will work across LGAH in providing a first class service to the L&G Affordable Homes businesses.  

You'll be responsible for providing support to LGAH in a way that allows the business to achieve its aims and which ensures consistent approach is taken across the Group while minimising operational and reputational risk.

  • Ensure the strategic and commercial objectives of LGAH and the Group are, where possible, furthered and meet required legislation and regulation requirements 
  • Adherence to the highest standards of compliance to build and protect LGAH’s and the Group’s reputation and all relevant corporate governance aspects are considered.
  • Provide support to the L&G Affordable Homes businesses in relation to affordable housing, property charging, managing the assets & liabilities register, general real estate, insurances, and other financial and corporate transactions, in some instances liaising with the LGC legal team.
  • Deliver support to a high standard within timeframes required by the L&G Affordable Homes business and in a manner that meets commercial needs.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of real estate, affordable and social housing, and governance of affordable housing and participate in helping the business to understand key legal issues and updates.
  • Share relevant knowhow and expertise with the L&G Affordable Homes business.
  • Where appropriate, liaise with the Head of Legal – LGC Later Living & Affordable Homes and the LGC legal team to assist in the management of legal risk within the business; and
  • Work collaboratively with relevant internal stakeholders including company secretarial, development team, finance/accounting, tax, treasury, risk and board support in order to ensure a joined up approach on transactions and so that the strategic and commercial objectives of the L&G Affordable Homes business and the Group are achieved.
  • Take a lead role in ensuring the management of all legal data and contracts in the business is to as high standard and accurate
  • You'll have a broad knowledge of the relevant statutory, regulatory and common law applicable to the field of real estate and the provision of regulated social and affordable housing 
  • The ability to work independently and to proactively identify, raise and resolve issues, and develop strategy is essential for this role
  • You'll have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to build strong working relationships within L&G Affordable Homes, the wider Group and with external stakeholders and advisers
  • You'll have a commercial mindset and be nquisitive and testing - Asking the right questions in the correct circumstances
  • Degree from a recognised UK university or equivalent (or qualification gained from a non-UK university
  • Experience supporting a broad range of real estate and affordable housing transactions, and in particular the charging of affordable housing assets to lenders and overall management of that process would be highly desirable
