We are recruiting for Mortgage Underwriters in our vibrant, growing Legal & General Home Finance office in Solihull. Underwriting experience isn't essential, as long as you have the drive and ambition to succeed! Joining a close knit team of dedicated Underwriters, Adminstrators and Customer Service professionals, you will provide and deliver resolution on medium to high risk or complex cases received by the Underwriting team. 

  • Full understanding of the Underwriting process and its controls to ensure all activity is compliant, to ensure the delivery of a high level of technical underwriting and suggesting recommendations for product or process change
  • Assess and process applications where case is within mandate ensuring acceptability of risk and liability, escalating to Underwriting Manager/Technical Manager for more complex cases or queries, taking ownership of underwriting activity
  • Interact with customers by telephone, e-mail and letter, taking a Treating Customers Fairly approach at all times
  • Apply knowledge to mentor and coach others, provide advice, guidance and technical input in order to improve understanding and job related skills, holding information update sessions for team as and when required.
  • Attending technical working groups, weekly operations meetings and meetings with third parties, with a view to building great business to business relationships
  • Monitor Junior Underwriters and Underwriting Administrators, highlighting areas for improvement, and approaching change within the department and the business in a positive, flexible manner
  • Analyse underwriting data to identify trends and produce necessary reports or findings, including statistical information where appropriate in relation to underwriting activity and bring to the Underwriting management and team’s attention for review.
  • Previous experience Underwriting in a financial industry or equivalent is beneficial!
  • CeMAP qualification is also beneficial, but not essential!
  • Understanding of Anti Money Laundering (AML), ‘Treating Customers Fairly’ (TCF), Data Protection requirements.
  • Able to remain motivated within a fast changing growing business and to pass this flexibility on to direct reports and peers
  • Able to handle direct customer contact effectively on a range of subjects including business acquisition and complaint handling
  • Good with numbers, able to pick through data to find useful and relevant information.
