Working at a strategic level to define data architectures for end to end technology solutions across the GFIT project portfolio, aligning solutions to Group Finance IT technology strategy and roadmap. This role will lead, develop and support a team of Data Architects, both internal and from partners, ensuring the integrity and consistency of data architecture delivery.

  • Define and lead on the data architecture within Group Finance to translate business requirements into conceptual and logical data models and ensure delivery of solutions which achieve the data architecture and adhere to required standards.
  • Deliver high quality architecture artefacts that are usable by target stakeholders, ensuring they clearly explain the solution and decisions behind them.
  • Clearly communicate the architecture, key design decisions and approaches to interested parties, stakeholders, project bodies and relevant governance / assurance forums including the Technical Design Authority (TDA) to support effective decision-making.
  • Oversee, lead and drive solution development including implementation engagement as needed. Apply knowledge of data structures and survey external market landscape for trends, direction, and vendors, as required.
  • Drive the definition and adoption of architectural standards, patterns, policies and data governance processes.
  • Collaborate across IT disciplines both within Group Finance and across the whole of L&G to align data solutions, reduce risk, and deliver shareholder value.
  • Treating Customers Fairly – Ensure that our application estate has core data values embedded and aligns to good practices for achieving data legislation
  • Manage a small team of data architects, supporting their development and assuring their delivery. To take the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.

 

Qualifications:  

•             TOGAF or similar certification is desirable, along with a related degree  or demonstrable equivalent experience

•             Certification in Data Vault, Kimble, or similar method is desirable

Knowledge:       

Required demonstrable knowledge of:

•             Design and architectural patterns.

•             Proficient in data management concepts, practices and procedures

•             Data governance, Data modelling techniques, Data platform market (both operational and analytical) and Data warehousing

Knowledge of at least one of the following:

•             Finance Systems - Actuarial Systems - Insurance industry

The following are desirable:

•             Working in regulated industry including FCA, PRA

•             Predictive and prescriptive analytics

Experience:       

Mandatory experience:

•             Data architecture across large projects (£25m+)

•             Working closely with development teams, data governance and regulatory teams to realise solutions

•             Experience of waterfall and agile delivery paradigms

•             Ability to develop, and project a positive image of the IT function and company through interpersonal, written and verbal communications to a wide range of audiences, building successful working relationships and networks

Desired experience:      

•             Broad data experience in finance sector and  developing the data maturity of an organisation

•             Modern cloud data platform services

Leadership:       

•             Lead and develop a small team of Data Architects

•             Thought leader on Data Architecture, able to paint a compelling image of the future IT capability and it’s desirability
