The ideal candidate will have a proven track record and a solid background in enterprise development, along with some understanding of database and front-end development. 

You will be a senior software engineer working in an Agile (Scrum/SAFe) project team working within LGIM Engineering.  As well as hands on development, you will be responsible for providing leadership to a team of developers within the Investment Management function, sharing common processes and tooling. The team develops across a broad set of technologies and platforms, including Angular 8, Java microservices, OpenShift, Camunda, Postgres/MongoDB, Jenkins CI/CD and integrating with both internal and external platform partners. There is a small element of 3rd line support as required. You will be collaborating with product owners, scrum masters, practice heads and other stakeholders to ensure a consistent and high-quality engineering delivery capability.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key duties include:

  • Lead, engage, motivate and develop other developers to understand and maximise their full potential, ensuring high levels of engagement, professionalism and contribution to the business.
  • Implement features, enhancements and improvements to Java-based applications in an agile environment
  • Design and architect robust and scalable systems using microservice and event-based architectures
  • Take ownership for delivering your changes from test through to production environments by utilising CD deployment pipelines.
  • Ensure there are robust technical design, review and standards for the development of Java microservices, internally facing web front ends and Postgres/MongoDB databases.
  • Coach the team to consider potential weaknesses or breaks in all system interactions and to drive a culture of discussing and remediating such weaknesses as soon as they are detected.
  • Ensure the codebase stays at a high standard by participating in code reviews, writing unit tests, refactoring, security hardening etc.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, QA engineers, users and production services to ensure solutions are fit for purpose
  • Keep stakeholders up to date with progress and blockers, provide estimates, decompose stories and so on, as per the agile methodology
  • Contribute to the culture of innovation and continuous improvement by implementing new ideas
  • Review and set standards for Unit Testing for all coding and then provide support to any Quality Assurance and User Acceptance Testing as deemed appropriate.
  • Provide 3rd Line Support the day-to-day running of all Enterprise Services during office hours.
  • Keep abreast of technological developments and new products. 

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record and a solid background in enterprise development, along with some understanding of database and front-end development.  They will have worked on a microservices environment like Red Hat OpenShift and have an understanding of application and integration patterns and/or event-based systems design. The candidate must be familiar with on-premise and cloud implementation patterns.

 

The candidate’s technical ability is key to successful delivery, however their communication and leadership with delivery with be a critical differentiator.  They will need use their leadership skills to motivate and develop a high performing engineering team.

The candidate will need to be comfortable in ensuring a robust risk and compliance-aware culture is promoted at all times. The lead will also need to make sure that all staff are fully aware of and comply with, all regulatory responsibilities. They will also have the communication skills to work with the delivery teams and in conjunction with key stakeholders, to actively strive for continual operational efficiency and effectiveness.
