The Medical Longevity Epidemiologist will contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of our medical modelling capability, focusing particularly on evidence gathering and applying the model to set mortality assumptions commercially.

The Medical Longevity Epidemiologist will contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of our medical modelling capability, focusing particularly on evidence gathering and applying the model to set mortality assumptions commercially.

The role will acquire evidence to parameterise L&G propriety medical longevity model to improve forecasting and underwriting capability.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Search medical literature for evidence to parameterize a propriety mortality model relating to health, risk factors and medical conditions. Examples of evidence may include multifactorial statistical analyses, statistics, etc..
  • Shortlist medical literature on relationship between illness and mortality.
  • Interpret results of literature to extract information to parameterize L&G propriety mortality/longevity models.
  • Ensure the evidence for medical modelling is appropriately documented, with limitations noted, for the purposes of audit trail and justification. 
  • Communicate results with key stakeholders including actuaries, modellers, underwriters and management.

This role would be suitable for someone with appropriate experience and expertise in epidemiology, statistics, or other relevant medical mortality modelling. The role requires an understanding of evidence gathering through medical literature search including:

  • Medical databases such as PubMed and EMBASE and other searches for gray literature.
  • Strength and limitation of different types of evidences such as meta-analyses, results of routine databases, clinical studies, statistics etc..
  • Good grasp of interpretation of statistical analyses, e.g. the roles of multi-factorial models, various measurements of risks such as hazard ratio, etc..

Graduates in relevant fields and Post-graduate qualification will be advantageous.

Knowledge of key public health and mortality databases in the UK.
