We are recruiting a Head of Operational Governance who will have responsibility for the development and oversight of effective governance frameworks for Legal & General Home Finance Operations team - ensuring that business practices have the appropriate governance and risk mitigation controls embedded and that the governance frameworks reflect L&G Group’s policies and standards.

  • Responsibility for the development and oversight of effective governance frameworks for Legal & General Home Finance Operations team which ensures that business practices have the appropriate governance and risk mitigation controls embedded in them and ensuring that the governance frameworks reflect L&G Group’s policies and standards and are within regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure that the Operations team are meeting the governance requirements, including the expectations of LGHF’s funder.
  • Responsibility for Operational reporting into L&G Group risk management framework to provide assurance that regulatory responsibilities are fully understood, all policies/practices comply with Group standards and that any non-compliance / limitations are captured and reported on and that plans are put in place to address these.
  • Where required, represent the Operations team on behalf of the Chief Operating Officer at governance boards and committees across LGRR and L&G Group.
  • Primary contact for second and third line review activity, managing the day to day contact and providing oversight and direction across the Operations area to ensure actions that result from such activities are appropriately prioritised and completed in a timely manner.
  • Lead and build strong and influential relationships across the L&G Group to ensure that business activities champion the fair treatment of customers, comply with financial services legislation and regulation, and reporting is in line with expectations.
  • Effective written and spoken communicator at all levels, with the ability manage senior stakeholders and present at group committees.
  • Demonstrable leadership and influencing skills across direct and virtual teams in complex organisation structures.
  • Comfortable with working independently, a self-starter and ability to assume ownership of tasks.
  • The ability to create good working relationships, a good team player, contributing ideas and putting team objectives first.
  • The ability to build a strong internal and external network to ensure Legal & General Home Finance are represented and to share and embed best practices.
  • Understanding of the mortgage market, corporate governance and best practice relating to mortgage governance would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of the Senior Managers and Certification Regime and how to apply and manage that within a mortgage lending business would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the current issues facing the industry including competitor knowledge, regulatory direction, and Government thinking would be an advantage.
  • Over time, would need to develop knowledge of Legal & General’s corporate structure and corporate governance arrangements.
  • Over time, would need to develop knowledge of governance and compliance reporting arrangements in Legal & General, including key committees.
  • An in-depth knowledge of business risk management and assurance policy, practice and procedures.
  • Management of internal and external relationships.
  • The role holder will have proven capability to co-ordinate, influence, and challenge senior stakeholders to achieve delivery of time-specific and demanding timetables and external process.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
