This role will act as the strategic Safety, Health and Environmental lead within Legal & General Capital (LGC) and, as required, to consult as the designated competent person for its subsidiary operations, on behalf of the relevant business/team lead.

This role will act as the strategic Safety, Health and Environmental lead within Legal & General Capital (LGC) and, as required, to consult as the designated competent person for its subsidiary operations, on behalf of the relevant business/team lead.

  • Have ownership of LGC’s Safety, Health and Environment Framework working closely working with the health and safety leads in the subsidiary businesses, and the L&G Group SHE team.
  • Review the current LGC SHE operating procedures, updating as required, ensuring that a robust documented process is in place.
  • Provide assurance that the Safety, Health and Environment Framework is operating effectively to the LGC management, including LGC CEO, COO and Group Counsel as well as the LGC ExCo and LGC Health & Safety Risk committee.
  • Provide appropriate level of oversight of management of Safety, Health and Environmental impact within the operational businesses.
  • Provide advice and guidance with regards compliance with the CDM Regulations and other relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Perform the role of competent person for those businesses that do not have a permanent member of staff. This role is performed on behalf of the CEO of the respective operational business.
  • Incident investigation oversight (from a CDM client, landlord or investor perspective) to ensure lessons are learnt and implemented.
  • Provide LGC representation at the L&G Group Health and Safety Committee
  • Perform due diligence on the safety, health and environment record and approach of prospective principal contractors
  • Keep the LGC team appraised of any proposed change in legislation that may impact on their business and advise of the implications.
  • Assess the current levels of knowledge within the team and advise on appropriate training as required.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Experience working in a similar role with a construction and property bias
  • Experience of inner city redevelopment schemes
  • Experience of in-house corporate health and safety management
  • Working knowledge of construction health and safety and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Experience of working with and presenting to Company Boards and Senior Exec teams

Qualifications:

  • Degree educated (or equivalent) in a relevant subject e.g. engineering, health and safety,
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
  • OHSAS 18001/ ISO 45001 Internal Auditor (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or equivalent) or working towards
