Are you a Senior Engineer with good hands on use of Unix commands and experience of working with in-house Python frameworks? 

Legal & General Retirement Institutional's Risk Analytics team is currently recruiting for a Senior Software Engineer for a 12 month fixed term contract. This is a great opportunity to own the software development within the team, on a variety of solutions and operating systems. This involves the full software development life cycle from initial specifications and requirements, through to estimation, development, testing, and release coordination with the Lead Integration Engineer. 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Ensure analysis and requirements are detailed enough to implement solutions right first time, track changes to requirements and impact analysis to timings and plans.  
  • Deliver innovative and novel ideas for software and IT architecture for line management review, keep up to date with latest technology and code advances
  • Develop customised solutions and modules in Python (and bash) using our existing in-house system framework. 
  • Undertake setup and configuration of the IBM Algorithmics and third party products, troubleshooting, testing (functional and volume) for project installation and system upgrades
  • Ensure analysis and requirements are detailed enough to implement solutions right first time, track changes to requirements and impact analysis to timings and plans.  Own and drive business analysis of changes to software
  • Work within Kanban and Scrum software delivery lifecycles and deliver all system and best practice artefacts, including unit tests and automated integration
  • Provide expertise and guidance to ensure the batch process is automated and as efficient as possible, and provide third line support to the operational team
  • Own the day to day relationship between our 3rd party providers (IT support, vendors) wherever issues arrive with production systems.  Drive the successful resolution of issues with 3rd parties

Qualifications:

  • Degree level or equivalent, in a technical or numerate field

Knowledge:

  • Experience of working with in-house Python frameworks is essential
  • Experience of AlgoOne risk suite, or risk analytics products
  • Proven ability to address and use initiative to deliver solutions to technical and business problems
  • Proven experience in software or database systems development and/or support with experience of project life cycles and complex product installation, customisation and commissioning
  • Software development life cycle, including Agile and Continuous Integration
  • Proven high degree of initiative and learning to work with complex software products with minimal supervision
  • Capacity to estimate, manage own work and keep within plan
  • Knowledge of automated unit test design

Skills:

  • Good hands on use of Unix commands / file systems and Unix application installation and shell scripting is required
  • Development experience and coding skills.  Python mandatory, plus one of: VB, Java, C++, Shell, Risk++
  • Sound documentation and communication skills in a client / customer facing environment
  • Source control, issue management software, and continuous integration software (Perforce, Subversion, JIRA, Jenkins, Confluence)
  • Technical, Application and Data architecture skills
