You will be joining L&G’s Accountancy or Finance Graduate Programme which allows you to rotate around the business within Finance. You will get exposure to various responsibilities during the 3 year programme.

You will be joining L&G’s Accountancy or Finance Graduate Programme which allows you to rotate around the business within Finance. You will get exposure to various responsibilities and work towards gaining your ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.

The scheme will have you completing three ‘seats’, this will give you experience in at
least two areas of our business – from Retirement, Insurance and Capital to Group
Finance and Group Treasury. Rotations could be based in any of our locations, including
Hove, Cardiff, London and Birmingham. We need people who are willing to be adaptable
and would be happy to travel around the offices for your rotation.

Role Purpose:

To complete the Accountancy / Taxation graduate Programme, you will be gaining experience and knowledge of an accountancy role.

Through the Finance and Accounting Graduate programme, you gain the technical knowledge, practical experience and wider skills that you need for your immediate job and future career.

This role will involve assisting the Finance Manager in ensuring the delivery of a robust and proactive financial and management accounting service, providing sound and effective operational finance management to support them in meeting their business and strategic objectives.

  • Career progression to a higher grade within Finance

Principal accountabilities:

  • To successfully complete all modules, project work and case studies of the Accountancy / Taxation graduate Programme and gaining your ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
  • You will be on the graduate programme which means you will rotate around Finance every 12 months.

You will get exposure to the following areas:

  • Management Information: Assist in the production of analysis/trend reports and Management Information Packs for senior management meetings to aid decision-making and strategic planning in order to achieve business objectives.
  • Direct Expense Management: Assist with the production, analysis and provision of supporting business commentary on current and projected direct expenses and FTE positions, highlighting trends and risks against Forecast and Budget. To assist the Finance Manager in challenging the business on expense matters, and ensure that appropriate controls are in place to eliminate excessive, wasteful or inappropriate spending by the business.
  • Transactional Analysis: Investigation and analysis of common queries across the division to allow a central review of root cause and actions required.
  • Allocated Expense Management: Assist in the production of VAM forms in conjunction with the business, ensuring allocations are reviewed and updated on a timely basis in accordance with directives from the VAM team. Assist the Finance Manager to challenge, where appropriate, allocations made to products to ensure fair and equitable cost sharing.
  • Business Partnering & Relationship Management: Assist managers to help them understand financial perspectives, enabling the business to adopt a proactive and innovative role in financial and commercial matters, establishing a firm base for the successful future development and growth.
  • Financial Control: Maintain and monitor robust accounting standards, policies and financial controls to ensure compliance with the Group Standards, statutory requirements and the control framework. Ensure all processes and financial transactions are compliant with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting, Projects and Planning: Assist the Finance Manager to manage the overall Business Units forecast and budgets, ensuring the Business Units plans and intentions are fully understood and presented. Take ownership of the preparation of the data into the system ensuring deadlines are met and budget submissions accurately reflect the areas needs and can be fully justified.
  • Support the Finance Manager by undertaking ad-hoc analysis and projects, as required, to further develop the success of the business unit and own personal profile within the division.

Qualifications:

  • 5 GCSE or O’level grade: A* to C or 9 to 4 including Mathematics and English Language or equivalent study experience or work experience
  • A-Level or Advanced Apprenticeship in Maths, Economics, Finance or a relevant numerate subject at B or equivalent
  • Degree or academic equivalent (i.e. NVQ Level 6) or equivalent demonstrable work experience

Knowledge

  • Financial experience is not required, however, a desire to learn and a commitment to study towards a recognised accountancy qualification is necessary for this role (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Knowledge in the use of spreadsheets.
