This role sits in the Investments Middle Office (‘IMO’) which supports the L&G Retirement Institutional (‘LGRI’) Investments team in producing management information (‘MI’) and analysis to improve the quality and timeliness of decision making.

Background:

This role sits in the Investments Middle Office (‘IMO’) which supports the L&G Retirement Institutional (‘LGRI’) Investments team in producing management information (‘MI’) and analysis to improve the quality and timeliness of decision making.  The team also performs and provides oversight over the operational obligations of the internal asset transformations (or Special Purpose Vehicles).  The successful candidate will primarily support the Portfolio Construction and Direct Investments (DI) & Real Asset sub-teams.

Principal Accountabilities:

Management Information ("MI") Production - produce various monthly MI decks incorporating asset-liability management, asset (both DI and traded credit) and market performance, liquidity and credit risk metrics for use at all levels of the organisation to drive performance and manage risk.  Analyse movements in key metrics and identify data quality issues.

Forecast the risk profile of our DI pipeline and verify that new transactions are properly classified and ratings are assigned correctly.  Implement process changes for newly introduced asset classes and changing reporting requirements. 

Development of Reporting Tools – support the implementation of new reporting technology to deliver production efficiencies, improve reporting quality and enhance our analytical capability to deliver more responsive, action-oriented MI and commentary.

Data Governance - ensure that data validation and reporting processes are effective at identifying material errors and work with the teams supplying information, both inside and outside LGRI, to remediate issues and improve upstream processes. 

Operational Support – undertake various tasks including monitoring trade instructions placed with L&G Investment Management, validation of Balanced Scorecard metrics, and production of monthly Trade MI. 

Knowledge:

  • Experience of reporting process improvement / development (essential)
  • Excellent MS Office skills (with Excel to macro level) (essential)
  • Knowledge of Power BI/Tableau (desirable)
  • Good understanding of Investment products and processes (desirable)
  • Experience working in a middle office or equivalent control function (desirable)

Skills:

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to work independently, manage and prioritise multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience of manipulating and analysing large volumes of data in Excel and understand good practice to encourage accuracy of own work.
  • Creative, open minded and able to determine optimal solutions and a 'can do' attitude to problem solving.  
  • Excellent written presentation and communication skills with ability to build relationships across the organisation and challenge where appropriate.
  • Good appreciation for solid risk and control principles with a strong sense of accountability for owning issues through to resolution.
