We are looking for an Actuarial Advisor (Prudential Risk) to provide oversight of the prudential risk and capital management of the long-term business of Legal & General Assurance Society (LGAS). The successful candidate will also advise on actuarial policy, methodology, management and analysis of the reported results for LGAS’s life and pensions business.

To advise on actuarial policy, methodology, management and analysis of the reported results for LGAS’s life and pensions business.

Principal accountabilities include:

  • Support the Chief Actuary of LGAS in fulfilling the requirements of the Solvency II regime; including review of technical provisions, methodology and assumptions, underwriting policy, reinsurance arrangements, data and risk management.
  • Provide review and oversight for reported results for LGAS, ensuring they meet professional and statutory requirements.
  • Provide oversight and advice in relation to the wider management of LGAS' risk and capital position, in areas such as the setting of strategic risk appetite, business planning, balance sheet projections, stress testing and the ORSA.
  • Provide the Business Unit finance functions with support to resolve methodology issues that arise during pricing and reporting exercises, providing the necessary advice to ensure timetables can be met.
  • Provide support in the execution of projects as required from an actuarial, risk and capital perspective so that the long term actuarial impact is fully understood by the business and reflected in recommendations made.  Ensure that Business Units consider the risk and capital impact of key strategic decisions.
  • Identify opportunities for generating and exploiting real capital synergies within LGAS and with other parts of the Group. Work with the Business Unit finance, pricing and risk functions to develop insights and identify opportunities to deploy capital more efficiently.
  • Build up and maintain contacts across and outside the business to ensure understanding of actuarial requirements and the impact of actuarial issues on the business. 
  • Detailed understanding of financial and risk management of insurance business
  • Detailed understanding of Solvency II and Economic Capital Principles
  • Knowledge of actuarial liability reporting and analysis across all metrics
  • Stakeholder management skills
  • Effective communication skills (written, oral)
