To manage aspects of the day to day production of parts of the group’s external reporting on a quarterly basis, with a focus on the consolidation process, Solvency II regulatory reporting, and production of the disclosures included in the group’s annual report and accounts. This will also  oversee parts of the team’s internal control framework, and the identification and implementation of related efficiencies and improvements.

To deliver the day to day production of the more complex parts of the group’s external reporting, including disclosures within the Annual Report and Accounts, Interim Report and reports to Analysts, and Solvency II quarterly and annual submissions, whilst ensuring compliance with the relevant accounting standards and Group policies.

 

Lead and manage aspects of the production of the group’s consolidated statutory results. .  Key aspects of the role include the review and challenge  of the consolidated results and ownership of the process leading to external publication of the results. Engagement with senior stakeholders across the business, including Group Tax, Group CoSec, individual business divisions and Investor Relations is also vital

 

Lead and manage aspects of the regulatory reporting processes, including quarterly Quantitative Reporting Templates and the annual Solvency and Financial Condition Reports. This will involve engagement with senior stakeholders and regulators, and drafting sections of the reports for external publication.

 

Manage the external audit relationship with regards to the above areas of work.

 

Own or take a significant role in ad-hoc pieces of work or projects as directed, including managing and directing junior staff as appropriate.

 

Maintain a business partnering relationships between Group External Reporting and key contacts in the business units to ensure a wider understanding of the business at a Group level and to enable better challenge and review to be applied to business unit deliverables during the reporting cycles.

 

Ensure the maintenance of  the team’s internal control framework for financial reporting processes to ensure financial and operational risks are appropriately controlled.  In addition,  actively identify opportunities to re-engineer processes and deliver best practice results.

 

Perform a line management function for junior team members if required, managing their workloads, ensuring that they are appropriately trained and supervised, and to generally aid their development.

 

Qualified accountant from a recognised accountancy body.

Good understanding of existing IFRS and Solvency II requirements, and the ability to analyse and interpret other reporting frameworks

Proactive approach to investigating and understanding changing accounting requirements and ability to understand the impact on the business, systems, processes and reporting

Open, actively seek to discuss issues and share information

Ability to analyse problems and propose solutions

Ability to create and deliver clear and concise written reports

Excellent communication skills

Proactively questioning and improving the status quo, thinking outside the current framework in order to improve productivity, efficiency and robust controls around external group financial reporting processes.

Ability to influence peers and senior management and build strong relationship within the team and outside.

Good coaching skills and ability to lead by example
