Support the Head of Regulatory Development in ensuring comprehensive oversight of regulatory developments in all territories in which we operate: indirectly through receiving regular and timely updates from non-UK based colleagues and directly through the ongoing monitoring of relevant information sources. 

Purpose of role:

Support the Head of Regulatory Development in ensuring comprehensive oversight of regulatory developments in all territories in which we operate: indirectly through receiving regular and timely updates from non-UK based colleagues and directly through the ongoing monitoring of relevant information sources.  Also, support in ensuring, group-wide, that the Conduct Risk function and management are aware of regulatory developments that are relevant to them, regulatory change is well planned and executed on a timely basis.  Actively considering the strategic and proactive consideration of regulatory developments, including engagement with regulatory to share our insights in the shaping of regulatory developments.

Principal accountabilities:

  1. Horizon Scanning: Undertaking horizon scanning activity to monitor UK and European regulatory developments, provide same day updates to management on more significant regulatory developments, provide weekly regulatory updates group-wide.
  2. Liaise with colleagues outside the UK such that at a Group level, there is a sound and timely understanding of regulatory developments.
  3. Regulatory Change: Support divisions and legal entities to understand regulatory development, undertake an appropriately detailed gap analysis, identify changes to processes, procedures and technology required, and put in place appropriate project plans to deliver the change.
  4. Support the development commonality of approaches to regulatory change in UK businesses by facilitating joined-up-thinking by UK divisions. 
  5. Regulatory Change Reporting: Coordinate and draft a range of written work and reporting to support and inform a variety of internal stakeholders. This includes periodic and ad hoc reporting and requests in relation to regulatory developments and senior executive engagement in regulatory developments.
  6. Producing good quality, factually accurate reports are prepared in a timely manner, including for CROC, ERC, GRC and LGAS and LGIM(H) Boards.
  7. Group Oversight:  Support the undertaking of group oversight activities to ensure regulatory change is appropriately sponsored, well planned and executed within divisions and entities.
  8. Thought Leadership: Work with Group Conduct Risk senior management to manage the provision of periodic updates to the senior team on key regulatory themes and emerging regulatory risks. Provide advice and support to the Group Conduct Risk leadership team, divisional Conduct Risk Heads and business colleagues, as appropriate, to ensure that the impacts of UK and EU regulatory change, are understood and action is taken to implement requirement on time. Support/facilitate briefing of the senior team by providing input to briefings and attending presentation sessions as appropriate.
  9. Special projects: Undertake potentially high profile initiatives and projects as directed by the Head of Regulatory Engagement, to meet regulatory requirements and in response to business critical factors, ensuring that such initiatives and projects are delivered effectively and within agreed timescales.
  10. Technical Expert: Operate as the technical expert on regulatory matters across the group.  Responding to technical queries, hosting of awareness raising events, such as lunch and learns, to help other members of the Conduct Risk function to upskill.

Qualifications:

No specific qualification is required but in order to demonstrate the knowledge required to perform the role, financial services or risk management qualification would be an advantage. 

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment in which an authorised firm operates.
  • Strong knowledge of FCA, TPR and FOS rules and the structure of the FCA handbook and associated documents so that relevant rules and guidance can be identified and interpreted quickly.
  • Awareness of the various regulators relevant to the activities of L&G, along with their areas of responsibilities.
  • Awareness of L&G’s position within the industry relative to its competitors.
  • Awareness of financial services products available in the marketplace.
  • Understanding of the risks and benefits of the products within L&G’s current product range.
  • Understanding of L&G strategy and direction.
  • Knowledge of L&G corporate structure and corporate governance arrangements.
  • Knowledge of L&G distribution channels.

Experience:

  • The role holder will have a medium to high level of skill across the following:
  • Experience managing relationships with external parties.
  • Experience of financial services, preferably life, pensions and asset management sectors.
  • Providing technical compliance and risk advice and guidance which is well calibrated with consideration of business and regulatory priorities. 
  • Experience and comfort at influencing at all levels.
  • Sound judgement in the effective management of issues.
  • Drafting skills.
  • Logical and common sense thinking in the management / collation of regulatory responses and organising of regulatory visits.
  • Understanding of business change activity and programme and project management.
