Support the Group Asset Liability Management (ALM) Director across all aspects of developing, embedding and executing a Group ALM Framework. In particular to ensure  delivery of an optimal asset and financial risk allocation, in alignment with the Group’s strategic objectives, global outlook, regulatory/external constraints and internal risk appetites.

Purpose of the role….

Support the Group Asset Liability Management (ALM) Director across all aspects of developing, embedding and executing a Group ALM Framework. In particular to ensure  delivery of an optimal asset and financial risk allocation, in alignment with the Group’s strategic objectives, global outlook, regulatory/external constraints and internal risk appetites.

Key Responsibilities…

  • Support the management of the Group’s ALM position within the context of a complex and evolving regulatory environment, ensuring an efficient balance of risks and well understood and safely managed downside exposure.
  • Provide actuarial and technical support, and   initiate, the development of systems designed to improve the efficiency and sophistication of the Group’s ALM Framework.
  • Develop and manage the efficient production of high quality exec/board MI, providing meaningful insight to senior management to support strategic and tactical decision making.
  • Identification of inefficiencies/opportunities for optimisation across the balance of assets and financial risks; develop/execute solutions to improve efficiency where appropriate.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Business Units to ensure strong consistency and efficiency between Group and divisional approaches to ALM, identifying and developing opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure strong connection between macro-economic environment, and the implications for efficient Group ALM, in particular through proposing of appropriate scenario testing and identification of potential opportunities for tactical or strategic rebalancing/hedging in order to add value/protect against downside risk.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills…

  • Qualified actuary or experienced investment/ALM professional.
  • Experience of financial and regulatory reporting within a financial services company
  • Experience of a range of investments and derivatives
  • Insurance experience within industry advantageous
  • Experience and understanding of capital markets
  • Ability to understand implications of market and non-market events on reporting across different metrics (IFRS, Solvency II, liquidity, rating)
  • Ability to analyse complex structures or technical issues and understand implications to capital, profit and liquidity.
  • Excellent understanding of balance sheet and capital drivers of a financial services company
  • Strong understanding of investments, hedging and capital markets
  • Good understanding of Solvency II overall requirements both on available capital and capital requirement side including understanding of internal model and matching adjustment.
  • Highly proactive, curious and confident in taking ownership of projects.
  • Ability to find solutions to complex problems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Stakeholder and team management - ability to influence peers and senior management and building strong relationship within the team and outside
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure and work towards tight deadlines
  • Ability to review large quantities of technical data within short period of time, analyse it and provide a succinct summary
  • Ability to create and deliver clear and concise written documentation or reports
  • Ability to take existing processes and improve/ simplify
  • Open, actively seek to discuss issues and share information
