About the business area

Legal & General Capital (LGC) is the principal investment arm of L&G. It was founded in 2013 to actively invest the Group’s own balance sheet into strategic businesses in order to enhance risk adjusted returns for its shareholders. We took on the L&G Group’s private equity and real estate portfolios and are building a direct investment portfolio which complements the strategic ambitions of the firm, both in the UK and internationally. In 2018 we appointed a new CEO, and LGC is experiencing rapid growth: last year we grew our direct investment portfolio to £2.3bn (up 60% on the prior year).

We focus our investment on the UK’s Future Cities. Our specialisms cover residential housing, urban regeneration, sustainable energy solutions, SME finance and venture capital, and we continue to add to these as new opportunities for investment are identified. We have full flexibility to determine our ticket size and our investment approach depending on the transaction, for example purchasing whole companies, taking minority stakes, forming joint ventures or investing as a limited partner.

LGC investment typically has a long term focus. We identify areas which are economically crucial, structurally underfunded, and require long term finance well matched to the capital sources Legal & General and its clients can provide. Building upon our in-house talent base and utilising an ever expanding network of strategic partnerships, we partner with market leaders to ensure we have access to the most comprehensive market intelligence and skill sets.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
