Assist the Head of Expenses, Group in ensuring the delivery of a robust financial and management accounting service, providing sound and effective operational finance management to support the division in meeting its business and strategic objectives.

In this role you will be supporting in the following:

Management Information: Assist in the production of analysis/trend reports and Management Information Packs for senior management to aid decision-making and strategic planning in order to achieve business objectives.

Direct Expense Management: Assist with the production, analysis and provision of supporting business commentary on current and projected direct expenses and FTE positions, highlighting trends and risks against budget/forecast.  Assist the Finance Manager in challenging the business on expense matters, and ensure that appropriate controls are in place to eliminate excessive, wasteful or inappropriate spending by the business. 

Transactional Analysis: Investigation and analysis of common queries across the division to allow a central review of root cause and actions required.  Ad-hoc transactional analysis to identify and correct errors and assist in the recharge of centrally held costs to the divisions in a timely and accurate manner.

Allocated Expense Management: Assist in the production of Allocation Impact Templates in conjunction with the business, ensuring allocations are reviewed and updated on a timely basis in accordance with directives from the VAM team.  Assist the Finance Manager to challenge, where appropriate, allocations made to products, Group and L&G Capital to ensure fair and equitable cost allocation.

Business Partnering & Relationship Management: Assist the team in helping cost centre managers to understand financial perspectives, enabling the business to adopt a proactive and innovative role in financial and commercial matters, establishing a firm base for the successful future development and growth.

Financial Control: Help maintain and monitor robust accounting standards, policies and financial controls to ensure compliance with the Group Standards, statutory requirements and the control framework. Ensure all processes and financial transactions are compliant with internal and external audit requirements.

Budgeting, Forecasting and Planning: Assist the team in managing the forecast and budget process, ensuring business plans and intentions are fully understood and presented.  Assist in the completing the data input of the budget/forecast in to the system ensuring deadlines are met and budget submissions accurately reflect the areas needs and can be fully justified.

Projects:  Support the team by undertaking ad-hoc analysis and projects, as required, to further develop the success of the business unit and their own personal profile within the division.

Treat Customer Fairly: Ensure all analysis, decisions made, and activity undertaken in fulfilling of this role considers the fair treatment of our customers.

Skills/Qualifications:

Graduate and/or actively studying towards a recognised accountancy qualification (AAT, ACCA or CIMA).

Financial experience is not essential but a desire to learn and a commitment to study towards a recognised accountancy qualification is necessary for this role (ACCA or CIMA).

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including spreadsheets.

Ability to work as part of a team and under own initiative.
