The role holder will support the Head of Capital Management in fulfilling the requirements of Internal Model Controller for LGC and assist in delivering the wider objectives of LGC’s Capital Management team.

Legal & General Capital (LGC) is the early-stage investment arm of Legal & General Group. Investing from Legal & General’s principal balance sheet, LGC’s purpose is to generate long-term value by injecting new capital into key sectors where there has been a shortage of investment and innovation: Housing, Urban Regeneration, Clean Energy and SME Finance.

The role holder will support the Head of Capital Management in fulfilling the requirements of Internal Model Controller for LGC and assist in delivering the wider objectives of LGC’s Capital Management team.

They will ensure the team’s capital modelling processes and procedures are robust, efficient and have adequate controls in place, making developments as appropriate.

In addition, they will manage the delivery and analysis of various capital modelling results, reports, projects or investigations to ensure LGC’s business is appropriately reflected within the Group capital modelling framework.

As necessary, they will provide specialist advice and guidance based on actuarial knowledge of LGC’s business and capital modelling approach.

  • Delivering all regular capital modelling outputs and commentary, for both internal and external reporting, supported by analysis and investigation of the LGC results.
  • Supporting the development of new capital approaches, particularly for LGC’s direct investments portfolio, and gaining necessary internal approvals for them.
  • Developing and implementing suitable actuarial controls around the processes and methodologies used within LGC for the production of capital outputs.
  • Monitoring the efficiency and robustness of LGC’s capital processes, proposing and implementing improvements where agreed.
  • Monitoring the appropriateness of LGC’s capital modelling approaches, including performing necessary validation.
  • Reporting any unresolved material weaknesses, limitations and shortcomings.
  • Representing LGC in the Group governance of capital processes.
  • Monitoring and reporting on LGC’s compliance with Internal Model policies.
  • Representing LGC’s capital team at internal and external forums where required.
  • Supporting other teams, both within LGC and Group, with the provision of specialist actuarial skills and in-depth knowledge of LGC’s business.
  • Supporting the integration of capital management into wider Finance team processes, including the central planning and reporting models.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Actuary
  • Highly numerate

Knowledge:

  • Detailed knowledge of SII regulations
  • Experience of investment strategies for UK insurance companies
  • Experience of Solvency II capital modelling
  • Experience of managing technically complex operating processes to ensure their efficiency and robustness

Skills:

  • A strong communicator who can communicate technical details to a non-technical audience
  • Excellent  written and numerical skills
  • Good analytical skills
  • Proactive
  • Team Player
  • Attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Anaplan would be beneficial but not necessary
