Job description

L&G are seeking Technical Testers to join the team in Hove.

Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • leading testing in product and project development teams, to ensure the delivery of high quality software across the L&G Group;
  • driving overall quality improvements to our websites and digital applications;
  • helping coach the team and stakeholders to improve the way they work and keep quality at the forefront of everything we do;
  • focusing on Performance Testing of Large IT systems including:
  • performance Analysis;
  • creation of performance test strategy;
  • creation of performance test plan, performance/automation scripts and scenarios;
  • defining and confirming non-functional requirements; and
  • setting monitoring tools and monitors, execution, analysis, providing tuning recommendation and bottleneck root cause identification on Technologies such as J2EE, .net and mainframe applications.

Other key duties will include:

  • involvement in testing in a product or project development team using different techniques and tools;
  • working in the development team to devise, plan and document tests to mitigate risk and protect the quality of our deliverables;
  • communicating the findings of your work in a considerate and actionable way to help the team improve their products. Managing any conflict that arises;
  • leading and providing effective communication to your team, the Portfolio QA Manager and other stakeholders interested in your work to ensure effective decision making and integration;
  • developing test principles with the Portfolio QA Manager to help provide a good outcome to customers whilst ensuring we meet audit requirements and commercial interests. Challenging and improving these processes where you see opportunity;
  • being instrumental in supporting the development team understand and shape business requirements to help ensure alignment and a shared understanding;
  • coordinating testing with other test teams and interested parties to help ensure the successful delivery of work into different governance and delivery models; and
  • providing line-management, professional guidance, plan, and coordinate development and coaching for a team of 1-5 Digital Test Analysts, managing the team in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures, including the Partnership Agreement, so that the team’s business objectives are achieved consistently.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:

  • significant experience in and an expert understanding of software testing, why it’s important, and how it fits into the software development process is essential;
  • a strong understanding of software development processes and frameworks;
  • an understanding of how we can improve software quality before we start testing;
  • an understanding of test automation techniques;
  • proficient knowledge on Performance Testing in various domains and technologies, for both Agile and Waterfall models;
  • experience of effectively leading performance testing within the test team;
  • knowledge of Dynatrace Performance Application Monitoring;
  • expertise in using “Load Runner, Jmeter, Dynatrace, Quality Centre, Bugzilla, Wily Introscope, Fiddler, Httpwatch tools and HTTP/HTTPS, SAP-web, SAP GUI, RTE Protocols;
  • relevant experience of different test execution approaches;
  • relevant experience of working as part of a development team;
  • strong experience (at least 2 years) in at least two of the following:

web development and testing;

exploratory testing;

test automation;

agile development and testing;

test management and strategy;

API testing; and

non-functional testing such as performance, accessibility or security.

Desirables attributes include:

  • an understanding of the different drivers and needs of customers, distributors and partners;
  • an understanding of digital/web development or product delivery;
  • a wider interest in technology and how it can be used; and
  • ability to demonstrate supportive, communicative and collaborative approach to working in a team. Previous team leadership, coaching or people management experience.
