The job holder is responsible for the production of the groups consolidated and entity tax provision and disclosure for the Group financial reporting purposes under UK GAAP, IFRS and regulatory capital rules including Solvency II.  This includes the preparation of internal briefing notes for the Audit Committee, CFO and Group Finance and liaising with the Group’s external auditors to obtain final audit clearance of the Group consolidated tax provisions, reconciliation and disclosure notes.

Part of the tax leadership team responsible for:

  • leading the provision of tax compliance and tax provisions (entity and consolidated) in financial reporting for the Group; to ensure the Group satisfies all eternal reporting obligations in respect of tax;
  • leading the management of tax risk framework for the Group including the Senior Accounting Officer processes. 
  • leading the tax business partnering for the LGI division and groupwide employment taxes.
  • co-responsible for developing and enhancing the team’s profile and effectiveness.

The role includes a significant amount of network building (internally and externally), stakeholder and team management. The role holder will also be expected to build relationships with HMRC, advisors and industry peers; and represent L&G as required at external forums and with HMRC to ensure L&G’s position is represented and good relationships are maintained with HMRC advisors. The role holder will be expected to work closely with other senior members of the tax team to ensure all tax advice is correctly reflected in the accounts and computation and to provide business unit specific tax reporting data for each business unit. 

Qualifications:

Qualified Accountant, or Member or fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation with sufficient experience of financial accounting to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.

Knowledge:

Financial Services and/or Real Estate experience preferred

Expert knowledge of UK Taxes Acts as they apply to Financial Services and Real Estate 

Good knowledge of other corporation tax issues,

Knowledge of the UK GAPP and IFRS.

High level knowledge of the key reporting requirements of the PRA, FCA and other regulatory bodies where appropriate.

Understanding of the key concepts which drive regulation within our markets.

Have a sound understanding of the general business and financial services environment and regulatory business requirements and its impact on Legal & General's strategy.     

Practical knowledge of each of the Group's businesses and how they interrelate including knowledge of the operational structures of senior management and their reporting lines.

Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the Group's policies and procedures including the Group’s risk management framework.

Develops and maintains a commercial awareness of all businesses and products offered within the L&G Group.

Ability to manage the production of both internal and external financial reporting documentation and announcements

Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint
