Legal & General Capital have a requirement for a Head of Property Investment Risk to support the CRO, L&G Retirement (LGR) and the CRO, L&G Investment Management (LGIM) providing advice, oversight and challenge on Property investment risks in their respective divisions.

The Head of Property Investment Risk role:

- Is independent of the LGC business operation, reporting to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), LGC, who reports in turn to the Group CRO.

- Provides advice, oversight and challenge on LGC Property investment risks.

- Supports and deputises for the CRO, LGC in providing advice, oversight and challenge on other LGC investment risks.

- Supports the CRO, L&G Retirement (LGR) and the CRO, L&G Investment Management (LGIM) in providing advice, oversight and challenge on Property investment risks in their respective divisions.

- Is involved where appropriate in material LGC business decisions (e.g. strategy, planning, investments, disposals, projects), influencing and providing advice, oversight and challenge.

LGC Accountabilities:

1. Working with the CRO, LGC and Group Risk to set risk appetite and tolerances relating to Residential and Commercial Property, and monitoring LGC business adherence.

2. Providing advice, oversight and challenge on LGC strategy, planning and investment activities relating to Residential and Commercial Property.

3. Deputising for the CRO, LGC in providing advice, oversight and challenge on other LGC investment activities.

4. Leading the evaluation of Property market risk and supporting the development of LGC business responses to changes in the risk profile.

5. Working with the Head of Capital Management, LGC to ensure that the Solvency II and Economic Capital models relating to LGC Property capture risks accurately and allocate capital appropriately.    

6. Attending, and providing independent reporting on Property market and investment risks to, relevant LGC and Group committees.

7. Supporting the CRO, LGC in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and standards set by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and other relevant regulators, and providing guidance on regulation relating to Property investment.

8. Taking the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.

LGR Accountabilities:

Supporting LGR Risk in providing advice, challenge and oversight on LGR Property risks, including:

- LGR Property risk appetite and tolerance framework.

- LGR Direct Investments (DIs) involving Property.

- Lifetime Mortgage (LTM) assumptions and valuation.

- Modelling of Sale & Leaseback transactions.

LGIM Accountabilities:

- Supporting the CRO, LGIM in providing advice, challenge and oversight on LGIM Property transactions, as a member of the LGIM Credit Rating Committee and an attendee of the LGIM Investment Committee.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree-level education (numerate).
  • Investment Management Certificate (IMC) would be desirable.
  • A specific property investment qualification, such as those offered by the Investment Property Forum / Henley Business School, would be desirable.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Proven technical expertise and experience of in Residential and Commercial Property markets and investments.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong judgement, evidencing an appropriate balance between risk management and commercial considerations.
  • Leadership and relationship management.
  • Gravitas and credibility, enabling effecting challenge and influencing.
  • Communication and presentation at all levels.
  • Strong team ethic; energetic, entrepreneurial; an ambassador for L&G’s culture.  
  • Effective in large corporate environment.
  • Decisive whilst working at pace.
