To define, maintain and ensure the integrity and consistency of end to end technology solutions in order to deliver the L&G Strategy, meet requirements and costs.  Ensure alignment to Group Finance IT technology strategy and roadmap and enterprise architecture, policies and standards.

  • Ensure the solutions developed and deployed are fit for purpose and fit for use, meet the business requirements and adhere to quality standards, deliver value within cost constraints.
  • Undertake analysis of technology solution options and associated costs and risks and conduct gap analysis, and proof of concepts for new solutions, as appropriate.
  • Provide input into project and resource plans and support business case production
  • Clearly communicate solution designs, key design decisions and approaches to interested parties, stakeholders, project bodies and relevant governance / assurance forums including the Technical Design Authority (TDA).
  •  Oversee solution development including implementation engagement as needed.
  •  Apply knowledge of technology options and survey external market landscape for solution insights, direction, and vendors, as required
  • Retain accountability for architecture and design throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that the delivered solution is compliant with its original design. Manage the production of Key Decision Documents, and apply appropriate governance processes to the approval and implementation of recommendations.
  • Assess and select packaged solutions in partnership with the business, IT procurement and Managed Service Providers. Produce IT review documents to ensure that due diligence is performed when selecting a specific solution and operating model.
  • Identify issues and risks and lead their resolution as required.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in the strategic application of technology
  • Treating Customers Fairly – Ensure that our application estate has core values embedded around ensuring value is provided fairly to all of our customers.
  • This role will require occassional travel to Cardiff and London 

Qualifications:

  • TOGAF or similar architecture framework (Desirable)

Knowledge:

  • Cloud technologies
  • SaaS, IaaS and PaaS
  • Mid-range  and mainframe computing technologies
  • Client Server computing technologies
  • Data Warehousing and reporting (e.g. Business Objects, Ab-initio, SAS)
  • Application integration with multiple platforms and data sources (Mainframe, mid-range, SOA, ESB technologies)
  • IT security principles)

Solutions Delivery Management

  • Experience of designing and delivering solutions to the value of £10m plus
  • Desirable to have an understanding of  Finance, Accounting, Business Intelligence, Data and Actuarial solutions
  • Understanding of technical options available for delivering solutions to business problems and requirements with experience of building out innovative IT & systems strategies and their links to business strategies
  • Deep understanding of a variety of IT delivery models, including waterfall and agile.
  • Understanding of established and emerging technologies and their contribution to delivering successful business outcomes.

Organisational Awareness

  • Understanding of departmental roles and responsibilities and the inter-relationships between business areas.
  • Understanding of governance responsibilities in general and specifically relating to Audit, Compliance and Group Risk.

Business and IT Strategy

  • Awareness of current issues and trends impacting L&G, including regulation, competitive forces and economic factors.
  • Understanding of L&G’s Business Strategy and L&G’s IT standards, and ensuring a sound understanding of how this relates to the role.
  • Awareness of any issues with these technologies, such as lifespan and potential replacements, scalability and other constraints.

Skills:

  • Bridging the gap between the technical and non-technical - Translates technical concepts between software engineering, delivery management and service management so they are understood by all.
  • Making and guiding decisions - Capable of making and guiding effective decisions, explaining clearly how the decision has been reached. The ability to understand and resolve technical disputes across varying levels of complexity and risk.
  • Turning business problems into technical design - The ability to work with business and technology stakeholders to translate business problems into technical designs. Creates an optimal design through an iterative process, aligning the user need with the system requirements and organisational objectives.
  • Governance and Oversight - Understands technical governance and is able to participate in or deliver the assurance of a service.
