This is an exciting and high profile role providing opportunities to engage with L&G’s leadership team, Board members and regulators. It will contribute to the ongoing success of L&G’s business by significantly enhancing our framework for managing enterprise risks and planning in detail the management actions needed to mitigate adverse outcomes.

This is an exciting and high profile role providing opportunities to engage with L&G’s leadership team, Board members and regulators. It will contribute to the ongoing success of L&G’s business by significantly enhancing our framework for managing enterprise risks and planning in detail the management actions needed to mitigate adverse outcomes.

Key accountabilities are:

  • Develop and manage the Group recovery and resolution planning (RRP) framework, to better prepare for moderate/severe adverse events, and to provide assurance to key stakeholders
  • Review and continuously enhance the risk metrics and tolerances on which the Group risk appetite framework relies
  • Lead and coordinate reverse stress testing for Group and LGAS, to identify threats to viability of the business model
  • Define and enhance the contingency plans (management actions) captured in the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) process and in our annual planning process
  • Inform and persuade regulators, rating agencies and other stakeholders regarding the Group enterprise risk management framework

L&G intends to retain an external consultancy to work on the development phase of RRP; the Head of Risk & Solvency Planning will direct and manage this key relationship.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Qualified actuary or proven equivalent skill set
  • Qualifications or proven experience in insurance risk management
  • Experience that can be translated to an ERM role / ERM qualification

Skills and abilities:

  • Work with and influence senior leaders, Boards and regulator
  • Communicate clearly and accurately, both in writing and verbally
  • Manage people effectively to deliver, including consultants and colleagues in other reporting lines
  • Focus on delivery to meet strict milestones

Knowledge:

  • Enterprise risk, risk appetite and risk governance within insurance firms
  • Solvency II and economic capital
  • Insurance financial reporting
  • Capital management and liquidity management within insurance firms

L&G knowledge preferred, or to be learned quickly in-role:

  • Group structure, core businesses, their strategies and key risks
  • Internal model for regulatory and economic capital
  • Risk framework, capital management and governance structures and processes
