The primary focus of the role is to support the consolidation of Group SII/EC forecasts and projections for use in Business Planning, the ORSA and regular MI.  Additionally, to support the development of new Solvency II metrics.  The role currently sits in the Kingswood office and the role-holder would be expected to work from this office for approximately the first 6 months.  Following the closure of the Kingswood office the role is expected to move to either Coleman Street (London) or Hove.

Principle accountabilities are:

Delivery management: Ensure the timely delivery of financial reporting of Solvency II and Economic Capital results meeting required internal and external standards.  This includes planning and managing the delivery of required inputs into our processes as well as the delivery of the result output.

Financial management: Manage the delivery of timely and accurate financial results across an agreed range of financial metrics (e.g. Coverage Ratios, Operating Surplus, Net Surplus generation, New Business strain).  Support the consolidation of, and the reporting of, risk capital results including elements relating to calculation, analysis, validation and documentation.  The roleholder will be expected to lead on aspects of the consolidation and reporting activity.  All material limitations and weaknesses should be captured with a remediation plan in place to ensure that they are addressed appropriately.

Customer relationship management: Manage the presentation and dissemination of results to the Board, senior management and for market analysts, incorporating supporting analysis and commentary for all reporting metrics.  Manage ongoing liaison by continually developing and maintaining proactive engagement to ensure the delivery of financial results continues to meet needs and quality expectations.

Process and Change management: Manage the development, support and maintenance of the team’s financial reporting systems, processes and reporting methodologies, ensuring they are robust, incorporating process change as required for the ongoing production of the financial results.  Identify and manage implementation of continuous improvement to processes.

Internal relationship management: Manage the relationship with the relevant Business Units, Group Finance and Prudential Risk.  Provide expert analysis to Prudential Risk to enable effective and efficient review of the results.

Manage the relationship with Business Units to ensure any limitations in their deliveries are understood and documented in terms of timeliness and quality referencing the key dependencies on this service for the reporting cycle.  Provide support to Business Units when required to resolve methodology issues they encounter.

External relationship management – consultants, peer reviews and auditors:  Manage the relationship with any relevant external consultants, peer reviewers, auditors, market analysts, credit rating agencies etc.

Planning: Manage the team through all planning phases by effectively prioritising and scheduling the team’s reporting activities, meeting the needs of all customers.

Maintain and Comply with Standards: Comply with the relevant Group and Professional Standards – for example L&G Spreadsheet Standards, L&G Group Policies & Procedures and Technical Actuarial Standards.  Monitor and assess compliance of other members of the team to ensure compliant.

Qualifications

Typically the role-holder will be a qualified actuary

Knowledge

• Detailed Understanding of SII and Economic Capital Principles

• Knowledge of actuarial liability reporting and analysis across various metrics

• Detailed understanding of financial and insurance risk management, including a practical knowledge of the drivers of risk capital

Skills

• Data analysis, able to apply financial analysis techniques and draw conclusions from that analysis

• Problem solving; the ability to apply fresh and creative thinking and to develop new strategies

• The ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences, including senior management, in writing and verbally

• A pragmatic approach and the ability to make sensible decisions with limited information

• The ability to manage workstreams

• Experience of modelling, proficient in the use of Excel and Word
