Execute a programme of Internal Audit work across the group under the general direction of the Heads of Audit and the Senior Actuarial Audit managers. Ensure that the objectives of each audit are achieved and that audit work complies with GIA’s audit methodology and quality standards, so that GIA fulfils its primary role of supporting the Group Audit Committee and Executive Management in the protection of the assets, reputation and sustainability of Legal & General.

Ensure that the objectives of each audit are achieved and that audit work complies with GIA’s audit methodology and quality standards, so that GIA fulfils its primary role of supporting the Group Audit Committee and Executive Management in the protection of the assets, reputation and sustainability of Legal & General.

This role requires an experienced professional with proven abilities in taking responsibility for executing high quality deliverables within strict timetables. The applicant will not be expected to have previous audit experience but will be expected to focus on developing these skills as part of their role with the support of the department.

Support the development of an audit methodology in respect of model error risk,

Contribute to building data analytics capability within GIA. Both of which will provide deeper insight and more sophisticated risk analysis and monitoring during audits

Conduct internal audit work on a variety of audit assignments as determined by the annual Audit Plan. Audit assignments will generally contain an actuarial/modelling element; however, non actuarial/modelling audits may be assigned where the skill set is deemed relevant to the successful outcome of the audit.

Produce high quality audit work that is delivered on time and complies with GIA methodology and quality standards.

Execute audits efficiently and escalate issues of concern early to the HoA/Practices team such that any replanning can be achieved without significant disruption to the objectives/timeliness of the audit.

Produce clear work papers and other written outputs; communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and business management. Maintain good working relationships with audit stakeholders.

Operate as part of an effective team and contribute proactively to the efficient performance of GIA.

Take responsibility for developing his/her own professional knowledge, skills and subject matter expertise.

Ensure that the principles of treating customers fairly (TCF) are embedded into management practices, so that identified risks recognise relevant TCF outcomes, and business processes and internal controls are structured and performed in a way that effectively delivers the required TCF outcomes.

 

Ideally, the successful candidate will be an Associate of the Institute of Actuaries (or equivalent), having completed at least CT1-CT9.

However, we would also consider individuals who have;

Some modelling experience and an Accountancy qualification / CFA coupled with a degree including a substantial pure or applied mathematics element.

In addition, the following experience is required:

  • Some understanding of risk management principles and practice and awareness of Internal Audit principles and practices.
  • Experience of actuarial financial reporting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Conduct and Prudential Regulatory Risk, Corporate Governance practices and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of life and pensions insurance products or of investment management
  • Conducting audit work in compliance with quality standards.
  • Good negotiator.
  • Articulate and effective communicator, both orally and in writing. Energetic and enthusiastic with a strong work ethic and personal planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to offer purposeful, constructive scrutiny and challenge through sound, independent judgment and common sense.
  • Resilient, handles adverse responses or criticisms positively and constructively.
